2009 in books and movies

Jan 01, 2010 21:21

I know, an entry about the previous year on the first day of 2010 may seem nostalgic, but it was a last minute decision:P. Specially made for Justyna clampin (though of course everyone can read it and comment:P), here my list of the books I read and the movies I saw during 2009!( Books! )

You watched so many movies I haven't even heard of! I'll be trying to see some of them this year ;)

Also, I'm adding a few books from your list to me to-read list this year. I hope they won't be to hard to find in Poland ;)

I'd like to find books by Latin America's writers you mentioned like Mario Vargas Llosa or Luisa Valenzuela. Except for Marquez and Zafon I don't think I know any other spanish writing authors so it'll be exciting to discover others :)
It might be hard to find their works in Polish translation, but I hope I'll manage to find an English one at least :)

Yay for that! What have you read by Carlos Ruiz Zafón and Gabo?
I'm positively sure Luisa Valenzuela has been translated to Englih because she has been lving for quite a long time in the States. If you have the luck to find her books, I recommend you "Strange things happen in here" rather than the second one I read...It's a book of short stories very surreal and full of Buenos Aires^^
And can't say anything about Vargas Llosa, except that...he rocks!! Read quite a few books y him (and I'm planning to read some more during this summer holidays) and he never let me down. Long live to him!

One Hundred Years of Solitude, obviously :P and Love in the Time of Cholera. I want to read more of his works, though.

The Shadow of the Wind which I adore. One of the best book I read back then. I really want to read The Angel's Game and Marin but didn't have a chance yet. I hope I'll manage to but these book this year.

I always read García Marquez books during the summer, so I may start one one of these days^^ Try "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" -a highschool classic in here- or "Big Mama's Funeral"- a short story collection, don't remember anyone especifically, but I've got the feeling I liked it when reading it:P.

Speaking of high school classics :D
Have you read The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov and Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky? I'm pretty sure you have :P SO what are your thoughts? I really enjoyed them both, but recently read some reviews and apparently lots of people love Bulgakov's book, but they think C&P are too angsty and even emo. I just think it's a really good book, and sure it's angsty with dealing wiith murder and stuff.

I'm sorry for disappointing you this time, but in fact, I haven't read none of those books- moreover, I haven't read anything by those authors (shame on me!)(though I've been meaning to^^')! You should ask Sebastian, he's the Dostoievsky fan, and I'm (almost?) sure he's read it:)

In that case, you should read it! I'm pretty sure you'll like The Master and Margarita :) I'm not sure about the other, because as I said it is angsty, but maybe you'll enjoy it anyway? :)

They both were on my high school books to read list. I wrote so many papers on both and it become a bit boring ;)
