Daniel Jackson was now a fugitive. Funny, he knew that his life would get more complicated when the SGC's Stargate program was revealed to the world making it known that his theories were correct and he was not a crackpot.
Now he is the man who opened the Stargate. And let in a lot of bad things come through it. That was not the reason why he ran.
He ran because of helping a woman who was on the Universal Most Wanted List escape her cell at Area 51, along with “borrowing” some equipment to do so. They have no intention of ever returning these.
And now he’s offworld, watching her wrangle with an alien (to be honest with himself, Daniel was the alien here) to lower his price on a set of data crystals. Daniel could not help thinking that the merchant looked like a cross between Kermit the frog’s grouchy cousin and a troll, with a mustache.
So was it worth it?
Well, the most infuriating woman he had ever met is now walking and conning freely and not a prisoner who would have been dissected and experimented on by the discretion of the United States Government. And he was free to do what he has been doing for ten years now- gaining knowledge and saving his world. Even though that world’s people now needs to be saved from themselves.
Vala Mal Doran smiled as the Kermit troll exchanged the crystals with her sensory enrichers (He did not ask what they did) and pocketed their purchase. Still smiling, she looked to him.
“Come along, Darling,” she said and sauntered off.
He followed. And Daniel, if he had to be honest with himself, would say yes to his question.
It was worth it.
