Day 9: Month of Love

Feb 09, 2009 11:29

Hey everyone! So for my post we've got a short fic. One of the things that I love about Daniel and Vala is that they are so opposite of each other. And yet, they seem to work together. Their relationship has this delicate balance, that with the slightest nudge can go either way, as shown in THAT scene in Unending. This fic showcases that.....I hope. :D Anywho--oh almost forgot, there will be some art coming later in the day, because lj is being bitchy and deleted all the coding that supposed to be in the same post as the fic. *facepalm*

Title: As the Sun Sets Around Us

Author: dvshipper

Rating: G

Spoilers/Warnings: none

Summary: Ya know, The Beatles, they had it all figured out.

A/N: Thanks to taraleesg1  for the awesome beta! This fic was actually last minute inspired by a scene in “Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist” (where the summary line is from) and the song “I Want To Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles.

Their relationship was….not fragile, but it took a good balance; if it tipped either way too far, it would fall. He knew that and worked at pushing her to keep that balance. That had worked well for them, in a way, for a very long time. Until one day when he got too tired of pushing and decided it was time to pull.

The air was comforting with the heat of summer and there was the familiar sound of steaks sizzling on the grill in the backyard. This was how it was every summer. The whole team would gather at their former leader’s house and just forget about work for a while. Beers were opened; music was enjoyed and criticized; bonding took place.

It was in that very backyard that he would do something bold, something she wasn’t expecting. As the sun went down, pink and orange would streak across the sky in a way that was special to Earth. In all his travels, nothing was quite the same as home.

The thoughtful look on her face would tell him that it was his moment to act. Walking up to stand by her side, he would watch her eyes dance across the clouds, her grey reflecting the gold of the retreating sun. When she sensed his presence, she would look up at him serenely, but not say anything.

In that moment, no words would be needed. He would reach out his right hand and gently caress her left with his fingers before intertwining them with hers. A smirk would light up her features as she squeezed his hand tightly, letting her more playful nature shine through laced with the serious emotion that might drip from her eyes.

With the sun almost completely behind the hills, she would rest her head on the side of his arm, showing that things would be different from then on. Because in that simple gesture, he had offered her everything. Love, comfort, protection, affection, support, willingness, trust, acceptance. It had taken years for that last one. Years to finally realize that he was in love with her and that he was ready for a relationship. And as the brightest light in the sky became the moon, they would promise each other that they would never let go.
