CHAPTER 6
The soft lighting on the stage reflected on the blue guitar while the small fingers were moving precisely on the silver chords. The movement, allied to the characteristic rhythm of the guitar player’s body and to the harmonic sound of the instrument produced a sensual effect, almost erotic.

The audience, with the exception of one person, were watching in a daze the final solo that was being executed with perfection. As soon as the musician pulled his guitar pick from the chords, silencing the instrument, the band realized, by the expressions of the crowd, that the concert had fulfilled its goal - it had touched people’s heart.

“Thank you so much for hearing us. We are Niji and we will be back in thirty minutes” announced the guitar player and leader of the band, leaving the stage and walking towards the nearest table.

“Perfect as always, Nino” Ohno exclaimed as soon as his boyfriend joined them. With no ceremonies, the musician sat on his lap and finished the rest of the drink from his glass.

“It’s a pity that I couldn’t please a certain someone” he commented, before placing his lips briefly over the baker’s ones. “By the way you were looking every two minutes at the front door, Jun-chan, I believe you were getting bored of our songs.”

“Huh?” the stylist asked him, distracted.

“You paid no attention at our performance, Jun” Nino said, pretending to be offended.

“It’s not true!” he protested. “I was watching you…”

“What was the last song we played?” the musician insisted, sitting at the chair in front of him when Satoshi went to the bar to pick up another round of drinks.

“Come on, Nino! Of course I know… It was… I forgot the name, but… It was…”

“Your favorite, Jun!”

He bit his lower lip in defeat.

“Can I know why have you been so distracted lately?”

“I’m sorry, Nino. My head is full of work lately.”

“Which work?” Sho asked, confronting him. “You had an empty schedule this week. To me, your head is full of memories of a certain handsome boyfriend… By the way, do you believe Aiba could model for me? I just signed with a famous brand of underwear” he was unable to finish his speech due to the slap he received in his head.

“Underwear? Aiba-chan also works as a model? I had no idea…” Ohno said, coming back from the bar and only catching his last words.

“And what a great model he is, Satoshi. Geez! What an incredible ass!”

Jun drank, almost in a single gulp, all the content from the drink that Ohno had just placed over the table.

“Eh?” Nino was suddenly interested, arching his eyebrows in a curios expression.

“Jun and I caught him posing completely naked in an Art School.”

“Naked? The kind of model that stays still in front of several people while they copy their features?” he asked, almost in disbelief.
“Stop talking about this!” Jun yelled.

Jun stared at him with seriousness, wondering why Sho’s teasing was bothering him that much. In fact, now that he thought about it, he also remembered not liking his friend’s expression while he stared at his boyfriend naked in that embarrassing situation. What kind of look was that? Was he analyzing him with professional eyes or there was more than this? Admiration?
Desire?

“So…” Sho proceeded, with a wry smile. “All of a sudden, Jun took off his coat and invaded the classroom as a lightening, in face of the stupefied eyes of Oguri, his fiancée and the students. He placed the coat over Aiba’s shoulders and pulled him by the hand out of the room, dragging him through the corridors…”

Nino and Ohno laughed at the same time and with the same intensity.

“It was all part of my plan… Oguri was watching…” he defended himself.

“Yeah, of course… It had nothing to do with jealousy… Tell me, though… what happened later?”

“Nothing much, Sho. We talked and he went back to work.”

“Yes, he did. You waited until the end of the class, however, didn’t you?” Sho insisted, enjoying to embarrass his friend in front of the others. “I wonder what happened afterwards…”

“We had dinner and then I took him home.”

“Did you spend the night there?”

“Well… I did. There was an incident and Masaki needed a friendly shoulder. That was all. It has nothing to do with what you are thinking.”

“Because you are an idiot. With a boyfriend like that beside you…”

“That’s not true, Sho-kun. In case you have forgotten, he is just my rental boyfriend.”

“This can change, nonetheless. Aiba-chan is a very special person…” Nino said.

“I can’t deny it. However, I really don’t…”

He was unable to finish his sentence, his Adam’s apple moving nervously when he saw Masaki entering the bar. As soon as he saw them, his fake boyfriend smiled, beaming. Was it just his eyes or was he as gorgeous as never before?

“I’m sorry I’m late”  he said with a gentle voice.  “Only now I have managed to leave the bar. Am I too late for the concert, Nino?”

“No, we have another performance to make. Would you join us for a song?”

“Kikuchi-san won't mind it?” he asked, concerned about the official sax player of the band.

“Of course no! He is your fan, you know?”

“In this case, of course I will join you. Jun-chan said that he wanted to hear me playing again…”

“Really? I’m happy, then. Who knows? Maybe, with you playing, this stubborn guy will finally pay attention to the concert.” Nino winked at his friend with complicity before going back to the stage.

Almost in the end of the performance, he called Masaki for a special collaboration.

It was impossible not to be captured by the melancholic subtlety with which he played the saxophone. At the same time in that the music suggested a romantic nuance, it also embedded a subjective sadness, a hidden hurt.

Jun wondered when he had started playing. Lonely and hurt, it was possible that the instrument had been, for quite a while, his most loyal companion. In the end of the performance, he had to blink for several times to hide his emotions from his friends. He had already embarassed himself a lot that night. He didn’t need them to see him crying.

As soon as the concert ended, one of the attendants came to announce that the pool table reserved by the group was already available.

“What about making pairs? Satoshi and I against Matsujun and Aiba?” Sho suggested, already offering one of the pool cues to his alleged partner.

“It’s a great idea!” Nino agreed, sitting the nearest table in order to watch the match.

At the beginning, Jun felt awkward to be in Masaki’s team. His friends were forcing him into a situation that wouldn’t be beneficial to the kind of relationship he had with his contracted party. That romance wasn’t real and that kind of thing would soon come to an end.

However, as soon as the game started, he forgot his worries watching his fake boyfriend in action. As expected, he soon showed himself to be the most energetic of them all, spreading honest and bright smiles everywhere, except when he had to focus, analyzing a play with serious concentration.

Once again Jun had to think how admirable that person was. He looked nothing like the frightened and fragile boy from three days before. Where all that energy came from? Where did he find such a strength to overcome his obstacles?

It was an easy victory. Two wins in a row.

In any other situation, he would have been his ideal match. However, in that moment, he wasn’t allowed to think about dating. He didn’t want to get hurt anymore and his mind was still on Shun.

On the other hand, he couldn’t give up on Masaki.

Was it because of the peace he conveyed to him? Could it be because he wanted so much to be more like him that he couldn’t take him from his mind through the whole day?

“Don’t you want to come in?” Masaki asked, a few hours later, when Jun parked his car in front of his building.

Yes, he was eager to do it.

“Not today, Aiba-chan” he answered, nonetheless. “I have to go home.”

“Take care on your way” Masaki smiled and opened the door of the car. “Thank you for the amazing night, Jun-chan. I had lots of fun.”

“We beat them beautifully, didn’t we?” he asked, proud of their victory.

“We make a good team.”

“Yes, a great team.”

“Well… I guess it’s good night, then.”

“Good night.”

“I will wait for your call, if you need me” Masaki said, getting off from the car. Before he could step outside, though, he sat back down, closing the door. “You know, I don't like to owe anything to anyone…”

Jun was about to ask him what he was talking about, when he felt Masaki’s tongue already moving inside his mouth.
