I always thougth that Gibs was my favorite character- but now,after all these years ,i realized he is my favorite because of what Kate brought out of him. Kate was good in bringing out the best in everyone. She was the person,who was passionate, intelligent, and very opinionated about the Right Thing To Do- and she was not afraid to voiced it with respect of Gibbs like a boss and the others like teammates. Sadly,I can't see anyone-including Abby,to react the same way Kate did,considering the moral aspect of the things. It's not like the moral aspect is gone, but no one voiced it loud and clear.In these situations Tony will make a joke, McGee will ask-once-if this is the right thing to be done,Abby is not a factor from my POV,because she is too...childish for my taste( still like her, but considering how she was at the beinning of the show and how is now..lets say the development of the character is a step back for me)-maybe only Ducky will say anything, but he has so little scenes,so he is not a big factor too.:( That leaves Ziva- but doesn't matter how much I respect her character, despise the all stupid ways she was wrote by the writers,she will never be a person,who will stand up and defend her POV- she do that in more..subtitle way. This show definitely suffer of lack of bright character,who can stand and defend his/her POV.
