With new life comes death.

I had to say goodbye to Cz today. We took her to the vet, even though we knew it did not look good for her. This weekend we found two black circles on her sides. One of which was a hole about the size of a cigarette burn. It would have cost hundreds of dollars for the surgery needed and the medicines and the very small chance that since her lungs were punctured that she would not make it through the anesthesia. I didn't notice these things on her sides before because she was always hiding. Also, no one every told me the light bulbs in the pet stores that say "Full Spectrum" really aren't. They lack UV B that is needed for calcium absorption. The vet lady was really nice and she said that Cz could have been sick for months and we would have never have known. Rest in Peace Cz. You were the best lizard I've ever had. I'm sorry I didn't have the right information and people lied to me on certain things about keeping you alive. I feel as if I've failed as an owner, but now I know for next time.

I've already decided that my next pet is going to be a bearded dragon. They are very similar, but they aren't as finicky about things like humidity. I'll still need to make sure I get a lamp with UV B in it. The tank we have is perfect anyway. It'll have sand instead of bark, a lot more rocks, and a lot less plants. Apparently they are easier to keep alive, as well.
