Off the edge of insanity: Farscape's Liars, Guns and Money...

I was going to write about Locket, Ugly Truth and Clockwork Nebari but I want to talk about LGM instead.

Liars, Guns and Money is my second favorite multiparter in all of Farcape, behind only We are screwed in season 4 ( Read more... )

I've rewatched this 'please kill me' moment about thousand times, because oh, John. and that's not even his lowest.

good luck with DMD - recaps of this ep stil make me cry, and I'm not even trying to rewatch it.

also, about John and guns? somehow most sad moment about it for me is in 'what was lost II' - when probe appears, and John, who was scientist and tech first, tries to threaten it with a gun. granted, he's mostly insane by this moment, and Grayze just smashed whatever little he had left, but still. so far gone, and more time to fall yet.

Wach DMD last night, and yeah, still wet-eyed. I can never watch DMD without popping in SoD right afterwards. I only came to FS in S4 so I can't imagine what it felt like to wait in real time.

DMD is, IMO, John at his lowest.

John, who was scientist and tech first, tries to threaten it with a gun. granted, he's mostly insane by this moment, and Grayze just smashed whatever little he had left

I loved that they made him a scieintist and not e.g. a military test pilot. Because that was the point: he was someone about knowlege and non-violence and see what happened. And he had no mental shields/predisposition for it, the way a military person would.

I really hope that after PKW, there is a quiet time where they can travel on Moya, raise their child and John can do sciency stuff. Because he does love it. I remember the image of him at the end of s3, writing wormhole stuff on his hands...all of it almost literally pouring out of him.

Re: Grayza. Hate her and can rant about her ad nauseam. Not as much as Scorpius but a clear second.

actually, after Grayza came I started missing Scorpius. he was bad, very bad, but at least after some time he started to respect John as a worthy opponent. I wrote this fter 'lion's den': - and Scorpius - they actually manage to make him if not likeable, but understandable character - and it's after DMD! it's interesting that in the end Scorpius is probablu one most close to understanding John - this farewell in the end, brittle and weary and respectful - Scorpius will do anything for his revenge, John will do anything for Aeryn, Earth and crew (in this order, I think), and they recognize a decent enemy in each other - one that's almost close to being a friend. sort of. - and still stand for me, and compared to Scorpius and all little dances he and John dance together, Grayza is still single-minded, brute rapist. hate her to the point of skin-crawling ( ... )

Oh, Grayza is definitely horrible, but I think Scorpy's violation is worse. IMO, of course. But they are all about helplessness. In a way, FS had to have Grayza because it was the one way John was not yet mangled, before her. That was the one bit of bodily integrity he had left, so it had to be destroyed, didn't it?

Scorpy is definitely more intelligent and all but still can't like him. But yes, there is odd respect between them by the end: Scorpy sees John as a person, even if a person to be hunted and exploited.

it's not that I like him - he's scary and creepy and fanatical and violating, and he'd screwed John up very thoroughly. but somehow he's easier to understand than Grayza, who's just vile.

I've literally gasped in horror, in fourth season, when Aeryn brought Scorpius onboard. because it's the last unviolated, 'safe' place John had, and she, for however sound reasons, desecrated it. no wonder he almost lost it completely.

btw, it's interesting - I wonder how John reacts to the fact that all three of his enemies - Staleek, Scorpius, Grayza - walked off alive and well and better off then they were in the end, while Jool and D'Argo died for this. would he be 'whatever, I'm washing my hands off you?', or angry, or hurt? I can imagine him saying 'and screw you all now, I'm going on vacation' and taking Moya with his family as far away as it possible.

I agree with Scorpy vs Grayza. I think he is a monster, but he is intelligent and focused and somehow with something there, while she is ultimately not that smart or complicated. Raping to get what you want earns not even creativity points. I always freak out the most, out of the whole Grayza/John enocunter, when she is telling him she will get him Aeryn Sun. While she is raping him. And the thing is, she is not even saying it to be cruel, but ot of complete understanding how a normal person works. Yikes.

because it's the last unviolated, 'safe' place John had, and she, for however sound reasons, desecrated it. no wonder he almost lost it completely

Exactly. I don't blame her or him but it's a hideous situation all around.

taking Moya with his family as far away as it possible.

Hopefully. But how Farscapian that the villains ended up having what they wanted.
