Some bizarro gleeing
In a fit of perhaps deluded grandeur, I refuse to believe that the makers of Time Between Dog and Wolf did not decide to create this drama for my express gratification, by thinking ‘this lj user dangermousie, let’s cater to all her things.’
Though I am also willing to accept a planning/brainstorming session that went like this:
TPTB Person No 1: Ooooh, I know! Let’s get Lee Jun Ki for our next drama. We’ll get good ratings as he is popular and hot.
TPTB Person No 2: You know what would be even hotter? Lee Jun Ki in a little pain.
TPTB Person No 3: What do you mean ‘a little?’ We are kdrama makers!
TPTB Person No 1: Right, right. Chicks live for that stuff. But we can’t have him die in a snow bank pining for his love. We can only film in the summer!
TPTB Person No 2: I know! We can make him a macho anti-mob government unit member.
TPTB Person No 1: Are you mental? We want him in pain, not inflicting it on others. We all know how well his ‘Fly Faddy Fly’ did when they forgot that important principle.
TPTB Person No 2: Stop interrupting! We can make him a PTSD-ing officer, who has some horrible childhood trauma…like his Mom dying of cancer or something.
TPTB Person No 3: *visibly getting excited* Nah, we should have her killed in front of his eyes by a mob enforcer when he is 12! Yeah, yeah, and his Dad is dead, so he is an orphan…
TPTB Person No 1: *now bouncing up and down in glee* And the mob enforcer will turn out to be the father of the girl he loves. His childhood best friend and first love, in fact.
*moment of silence, as they are all overcome by their brilliance*
TPTB Person No 2: *not to be outdone* And as an adult he can spectacularly go to pieces during his first mission, trying to kill the man who killed his Mom. Just think of the angst potential!
*now the ideas are really flying*
TPTB Person No 3: And he can infiltrate the mob, too! All the angst in that!
TPTB Person No 1: And his adopted brother can be in love with his girl!
TPTB Person No 2: And there should be fake death and amnesia!
TPTB Person No 1: And meanwhile his brother will grow closer to the girl LJK loves and LJK won’t be able to do anything about it!
TPTB Person No 3: And we can have him beat up and tortured in every episode!
TPTB Person No 1: Brilliant. Truly brilliant. We are so in the clover. The guys are going to dig the ‘tough guy’ stuff and the girls are going to want to tend his wounds. Good ratings, here we come.
TPTB Person No 2: Wait, why is Lee Jun Ki cowering in the corner? Who invited him to the meeting anyway?
TPTB Person No 1: Ahhh, actors. They don’t understand true genius. *kindly, to LJK* Look at it this way. At least in this one you don’t have to cross-dress and slit your wrists on screen.
Seriously, so far (three episodes in) this looks like the drama with the most chance of me watching it as it airs through to the end (I am usually very bad on it, preferring to binge once they are done).
The stuff in three was like something out of a textbook h/c fic, only canon and with LJK!
Basically, we have the calm, cool, very competent and reserved guy. Who even tells his OTP girl that he only sees her as a friend (LIAR! Heh. Just look how upset he looks when she walks off. He is sort of emotionally retarded, isn’t he? His emo brother had to actually tell him the girl likes him that way).
And then he is being all competent on a super-special mission. And then he sees the man who killed his Mom and almost killed him too.
And OMG, he bolts out of there, and he is falling apart in the hallway, sitting somewhere dark, all drawn into a little ball and shaking and freaking out, and reliving it and then he gets his gun and looks like a zombie and goes after the man and gets hideously beat up in the process and continues anyway, and he’s lost all reason, yelling for the guy to come out and the guy disarms him and throws away the gun clip and LJK is lying there on the ground, beaten almost to death but still trying to aim the empty gun which is making ‘click click click’ noises and weeping as the man walks away.
And then he has horrible nightmares about past/present/murder everything and he is in the hospital ER surgery and he is convulsing and his family is freaking out and his OTP is there, and she holds his hand and strokes his head and tells him he will be OK.
And then his adopted father asked him what happened (when he is still in the hospital) and he tries and he stammers it out and he gets so freaked and agitated and ptsding again, he is having problems breathing and he is shaking and…
Is this not ultimate h/c or what?
Nope, it’s not. On the scale of things, ep 3 is like the appetizer of manpain, and ep 4 is a five course meal.
Haven’t seen it yet, but did flip through the dl to see if it works and OMG. He is in Thailand, and got caught by the bad guys and getting extensively tortured (emo brother wins bonus points for eventually rescuing him) and then he and the OTP are on a bed in a dim hotel room, and he is all banged up and he tells her how he is here to kill the man who killed his Mom but he can’t even take care of himself. Awwwww. He is totally falling apart there, and she puts his head on her shoulder, and tells him she will stick with him forever and they’ll finish it or similar. And OMG OMG. He raises his head and leans in to kiss her and they are kissing and leaning back on the bed and eeeeee! Finally. OK, it’s kdrama so this is all we are going to get on that score, but EEEE!
(Of course, this gives me another reason for not wanting emo brother to get the girl. Ummm, how trippy would it be to make love to a girl and be ‘oh, my brother probably did this before me.’ Not that it stopped them in BSG :))
The subbers for this are insanely fast. Subs for ep 7 are already out! Some wonderful people basically take Chinese subs that appear super fast and translate them into English. The subs are really really good, too, and are out basically the next day after the ep. It’s like Hanadan giddiness of subs all over again, only with way more manpain.
