Mr. Mousie's comment on seeing my current LJ background: 'Why do you have a picture of two Japanese people having sex?' ROFL. To my response of 'They are not Japanese and he is just kissing her good night' he responded 'Ah, so he is at the thank you stage.' Heeee.
If the below (nonspoilery) The Outsiders vid (with the music the awesome theme song for TO) doesn't make you watch it, I despair of you.

Started ep 13 of The Outsiders and it's all dark and all, with them trying to rescue that cousin of Mainland Girl from forced prositution, but I am LOLing because Ah Hao so sucks at deception. I have never seen anyone less equipped to be an enthusiastic (pretend) supporter of whores. He looks as happy to be walking out with two of them as if he was being made to eat rocks. LOL.
But oh. oh. oh. Yu Yen hears about this and of course naturally assumes the logical...that he went and cheated on her. Gosh, stop keeping secrets from each other, woobies. I know you still want to keep her as far from your 'work' life as possible, but she isn't going to hate you for doing a good deed. But her reaction, when she tells Hong Do (though she is clearly heart-broken) that he can let off some steam, that is OK. That kills me. Because if she felt she was a good girlfriend to him, if she felt 'worthy' and 'happy,' she would be boiling mad (the way Hong Do is with the loving but clearly straying now and then Ah Qi). But she feels that she has failed him in her trauma-induced toughness and coldness. And that is so sad, that they both live with their eternal knowledge of failure: his to keep her happy and innocent and hers to keep him happy and to make him feel loved.
You know, her one enormous (though noble and necessary) secret slowly built this huge wall between them, and no matter how they love each other, they can't scale it. But it's made all the sadder that they try now and then, but just aren't in sync (as the time when Ah Hao comes home and asks her to stay and tells her he missed her but she is having rape flashbacks. Or when he prepares a bouquet and plans a dinner only to drop it after seeing her with Danzi) and they are almost there and oh oh. Even if the ending will be sad for the OTP, at least I hope they will find a moment of peace and happiness before the end. Or at least peace and security in their knowledge of their utter love for each other, no secrets or holding back.
He is tougher now, because of the life he leads, but I think it was always hard for him to open up, even in the beginning, because of the life he had: no family, self-reliant. That doesn't exactly breed over-sharing. But the thing is, I think he wants to share and if prompted properly, it all comes rushing out (I am thinking of the scene much earlier, before her rape, when he feels safe in her staying and all his fears and thoughts about his new 'job' come rushing out in a mad tumble). He might be reserved (he didn't use to be so, he was boyishly eager with her. It's just their life is full of unexploded minefields), but there is a difference between being that and being lonely. No one likes the latter. And of course, Yu Yen herself, because of her ginormous trauma, has lost (or misplaced) the ability to push him exactly when needed (or just do it by being her calm gentle self) to periodically spill his guts out. Now she is just as shuttered as he is, and that is no good.
And Ah Hao was never very good at getting her (or anyone) to open up. He is no Danzi. Before, it was all so easy and perfect because she was so utterly open and attuned and happy. He doesn't quite know how to break through to her anymore, either.
It's a very heart-breaking thing, isn't it? Because they so obviously love each other more than anything, but their traumas and lives make it so hard for them to connect. All the unspoken things are choking them.
Here are a very few shots from the beginning of the ep.
I love smiling Yu Yen:
But you know what I love even more? Ah Hao being his idealist self and deciding to rescue what's-her-name from the flesh trade:
One problem. He sucks at 'being' an interested customer. (He just as well might have 'property of Yu Yen' tattooed on his forehead:
Nope, still not working:
You may ask, why so much The Outsiders? Well, it's the only drama I am watching. Usually I watch at least two, but I cannot hold interest in anything but TO now. It's insane. I don't even ff one bit and don't mind watching on the computer. Craaaaazy :)
I am however also reading volume 1 of W Juliet and Kitchen Princess which are both cute if not memorable. And Mr. Mousie and I are slowly but surely continuig with the Otogi Zoshi anime. We are in modern day and it's fun.
