Just to prove I have something other on the brain than The Outsiders (though not much), here is a list of summer dramas I am interested in/will be watching/trying out, broken by country.
JAPAN
First Kiss: I am a bit unsure on the plot of this one (and when does it start?) but it stars Inoue Mao who is probably the most adorable jdrama actress ever, so must have.
Hana Kimi: Starts July 3. Starring Horihita Maki and Oguri Shun. This is the one I am most excited about. In case you have slept through all my previous entries, it's about a girl who cross-dresses as a boy to enter an all boys school to be close to her high-jump idol. And ends up rooming with him. Oguri as the lead, getting the girl, would be enough, but it also has the awesome Maki and is based on a fave manga.
Jotei Starring Matsuda Shota and some girl who I haven't seen in anything. Based on a manga, she wants to get revenge, becomes hostess, he helps blah blah. It's Matsuda Shota, do I really care about the plot?
TAIWAN
Why Why Love: Already started. With Mike He and Rainie Yang and Kingone. The only reason I haven't started this yet is because I wanted to hoard a few first eps. OMG. Are you kidding me? Funniness and adorableness of Mike/Rainie owns me.
Plot: Tong Jia Di needs a life besides work, paying down family debt, and more work. So her best friend Jiang Xiao Nan sneaks in a “Love” coupon in Jia Di’s ruffle box praying that the lucky guy who draws it will sweep Jia Di off her feet. As it so happens, Huo Yan, the compassionate manager Jia Di has secret crush on, is the lucky guy. But, tho' the prince can exchange the coupon for Cinderella’s love, it doesn’t mean he will, especially when his devilish younger brother is determined to exchange his “Master/Angel” coupon for her servitude.
This is basically a rehash of Devil Beside You, looks like, but who cares? Mike. Rainie. DIES.
KOREA
Coffee Prince:
Starts on July 5. Starring Yoon Eun Hye and Gong Yoo. Yay for cross-dressing hijinks. Eun Hye cross-dresses as a man and ends up working in a coffee shop run by Gong Yoo. Gong Yoo has no idea Eun Hye is a girl and gets completely overthrown when he realizes he is developing 'gay' feelings for his cute subordinate. YESSSS.
The Time Between Dog and Wolf:
Starting on July 11. Starring Kee Jun Ki, love interest of Lee Jun Ki. And some other guy who is not Lee Jun Ki but is hot anyway. Oh, and did I mention Lee Jun Ki? As you can gather, my interest in this one is somewhat...focused. Heh.
Joking aside (though seeing Junki as the lead, in suits, angsting, and kicking butt, is no joking matter, ladies), the plot of this one sounds very much my thing: this drama is about two long term friends who became enemies under forced circumstances. Lee Junki plays a man who seeks revenge on behalf of his father, a policeman who was killed by a criminal organization.
I need an angsty, tough drama per season and it looks like it will be it.
Cain and Abel:
Is this even a summer drama? No Idea. I think it's supposed to air in September. The plot of this one sounds like it would be incredibly my thing, and add it to the 'mobsters and crossdressers' camp that my summer watching seems to shape up as. I am dying to watch this one.
Two brothers have been separated in childhood and one grew up an upright police officer. The other one had an incredibly tough life and eventually became an assassin for the mob. When they are grown up, their paths cross. Oh, and they same for the same girl, too. The lead (the assassin, in case you want to know. YESSSS. I have my hot cop with 'Wolf,' I need a hot mobster) is So Ji Sub, fresh back from his mandatory Army service. He will hopefully have sexy muscles to show off. I have previously only seen SJS in Bali, where I didn't care for his character, but thought him good-looking and able to angst very well, so bring it on. If he impresses me, I will finally gather my courage to watch MISA, a super famous drama with him in the lead, which I so far stayed away from, as it seems more depressing than Silence.
ETA: Curses. They moved it to 2008. Booo! Still, this means at least two exciting dramas in 2008, with this and ISWAK2.
That is 6 dramas and so chances are half of these end up 'going' with my waiting until they are done, to watch them. This said, it will take a miracle to dislodge Hana Kimi off the 'current watching' list.
