Because I seem to be all about tough ladies today.
Behind the cut are a few pics of Kara and Anders, one of my favorite ships on Battlestar Galactica. I almost never switch ships, tending to follow through to the bitter end (Buffy/Angel, anyone?) so Kara/Anders are actually kinda unique for me.
When BSG started, I was all about Kara/Lee. Heck, I wrote K/L fic. When Anders first appeared, and Kara and he had that ‘encounter’ down on Caprica, I shrugged it off, annoyed, and assumed it was a one-time deal. And then jumped back on my K/L bandwagon.
But it wasn’t a one time deal. Kara didn’t forget him and he reappeared and somewhere, between the end of S2 and the end of S3, I became a rather strong Kara/Anders shipper. I still adore Lee to bits, still love the Kara and Lee dynamic (they are best friends who can’t be without each other, clearly) and if it ended up K/L I would not complain, but yeah, for now, I am definitely all about Kara/Anders.
‘Who are they?’ ask the 90% of my flist who have no idea what BSG is. BSG is an awesome post-apocalyptic show on SciFi, about to enter into its fourth and final season. It follows a ragtag group of humans of fictional ’12 colony’ planets who managed to escape genocide instituted by Cylons, descendants of robots humans created earlier. The humans are off to find Earth, the Cylons are pursuing, and nothing is as simple as it looks.
Kara “Starbuck” Thrace is a hotshot pilot who can outfight, outfly and outdrink most anyone in the fleet. She also has huge intimacy issues due to a complicated and messed up past that would take too long to explain. Sam Anders is the leader of the Resistance on Caprica, the planet otherwise wholly controlled by Cylons. They meet as a result of one of Kara’s trademark lunatic missions and sparks fly.
Why do I love them so? I think in a lot of ways they represent my favorite dynamic: the much more normal, laid-back guy who is no push-over and the really screwed up woman with intimacy issues who is tougher than anyone else around. Call it my Farscape hangover if you will. Anders is so much more groundedly unscrewed up than anyone else in the main cast (though it’s a purely comparative thing, as most other shows he’d be the screwed up one). Maybe it’s the chemistry. Maybe because he will not let her walk all over him. Maybe it’s the fact that when Kara gets back yet again, she will discover that Anders, the dependable, grounded Anders has one of the biggest ‘mess you up’ things happen to him:
discovery he is one of the Final Five cylons. Maybe it’s because I adore Lee/Kara but it’s deeply unhealthy and codependent, and with Anders somehow there is a chance, a genuine chance for happiness.
Ahhh, who am I kidding? I was a goner from that scene in the premiere of s3 where he found her in the abandoned jail, unconscious, and he is kissing her and freaking out she is hurt and just…GUH.
I should list all my fave K/A scenes.
But instead, here are a few pics:
