I am on episode 5 of Taiyou No Kisetsu because I've been so tired lately and I wanted to save it to savor when I was awake.
As mentioned earlier, it's a jdrama about a guy (played by Takki who's never looked better) trying to get revenge on his 'best friend' whose family ruined his but getting sidetracked when he falls in love with a plain little pianist who is as kind as she is sheltered.
Oh God, I love it.
True, secondary characters I can take or leave but the OTP.
Oh the OTP.
They are just...
it's got the whole Kurosagi 'messed up boy wam girl and he doesn't want to let her in but can't keep away' thing and running and protectiveness and hugs like she is the one thing stable left in the world and and and...
*dies*
Oh, Eiko's Mom is horrible. She pretends she wants Eiko and Tatsuya to go out to that concert, she even sends Eiko to buy a dress, as if she is being Mummy Angel.
But meanwhile, she calls Tatsuya up and has a meeting with him and firstly asks him if he loves Eiko (lady, they haven't even gone on one date yet, lay off). And then basically tears up his ticket and tells him if he has any care for Eiko not to ever see her again.
She just can't bear not to control every aspect of her life.
And Tatsuya of course is so easily persuaded into 'I am a blight who shouldn't be her around her. Must go get my revenge instead.'
Oh. Oh.
So of course, he doesn't go. And while she is waiting for him outside the concert hall, he goes and calls up Shinji's (his 'best friend' he wants to ruin) fiancee and gets her to come out for a quickie in a motel room.
It's fascinating because what he is doing is despicable and yet as I said, I feel totally sorry for him. He is so broken. I think when his father killed himself something got broken for good. You see his natural state is total kindness: that is his unthinking response to Eiko at the very first, e.g. (and he used to be asweet to his school friend and protected him from bullies etc). But then his conscious self reassets itself.
It's amazing, because I both want to shake Tatsuya so hard his teeth rattle but yet I also want to hug him and tell him everything will be allright.
He is so fragile, so messed-up. Despite her unworldliness, and her frailness, Eiko is much more put together.
He might get revenge but it's not making him any happier. Just look at him in the shower after sex, as if he is washing everything off. No wonder he gloms onto Eiko, she gives him calm.
And then he is in a taxi with the girl and they drive by the theater and the performance is over and he sees Eiko there...leaning on the pillar, waiting. He looks as if he is damned.
And then he gets home and he throws away the music tape Eiko gave him etc etc.
But then he sits and thinks of her and thinks and then, he just takes off at a dead run.
EEEE!
EEEEEEEEE!
And he runs to the music hall but she has left. And he literally collapses on his knees in despair. Takki. In dark dress pants. And white dress shirt. On his knees because he thinks he lost his OTP. Thank you, Lord. I have clearly been a good girl and have been rewarded for the same.
And then he hears a noise and sees her come out and she tells him he is late. Too late.
(You go, girl!)
And OMG, he runs up to her and pulls her into this hug, as if he is holding oun for dear life and can't let go and she is the only stable thing in his life (which she is). And he just stands there, not letting go. And slowly she hugs him back.
I love the VO where he is all about how somehow the small body (Eiko's) became precious to him.
And I love how her evil Mom is freaking out because it's so late but Eiko is not home. Serves you right, witch.
And then you see Eiko and Tatsuya on the train going somewhere and she is asking him if it's OK.
I confess my mind went to the gutter right away but...
OMG.
OMGGGGGGGGG.
He took her to the beach. And they sit for hours, close but not touching, waiting for the sunrise.
Because she said she wanted to see the beach and he thought that he didn't want her to wait, he wanted to make it true as soon as he could because she already waited for him so long.
OMG OMG OMG OMG.
This is KILLER.
It's like everything I ever want in an OTP.
And she is running around in the surf, playing with the sand, and she is so open and warm and unguarded and spontaneous, and utterly unselfconscious. This and the fact that she is just very accepting: she just takes him the way he is, must be so relaxing. In fact, he is so relaxed, he almost falls asleep and I love when she reaches to touch his face and then he opens his eyes and she draws back quickly :)
Of course, things are about to get really complicated as 'best friend' found out about the cheating and also about Tatsuya lying about is background.
Hmmmm.
I have to say they got it spot on. A lot of girls would go nuts if a guy treats them like this. There is incredibly hot guy who totally helped you rpeatedly. And yet he is very unapproacheable and you don't know what's going on with him. And he is always amazing to you when you are together and he treats you like you are his long lost soul. Except when he ignores you. And he is totally always way late making you be on pins and needles. But then shows up desperate to see you.
Gosh, girls are suckers for push-pull. I like it in fiction but in RL they should be unmessed up IMO.
