You know, I think the addition of Gwen Stacy may have killed my interest in this movie. I mean they DID the major Gwen storylines(perfect girl Peter adores but can't get + dangling off the bridge) with MJ in the first movie, all bringing Gwen in now seems to do is say "hey look, Gwen" for the hardcore fans. Does she actually serve a purpose or, as one friend put it, is she "just there to make Peter be stupid"?(which, for him, is the equivalent of a full scale rant)
*apologizes for the ramblings of her inner comic geek*
Incidentally, since you asked me about period dramas recently: Someone uploaded the first few eps of the kdrama, Seo Dong Yo, to jdramas and I just finished the first ep. Nice angsty doomed forbidden love, even if it's just the main character's mother and her boyfriend. Doesn't grab you immediately like Damo or Emperor of the Sea-EotS took a page from Damo's book and opened with a short scene of 2 characters who obviously have a deep connection in battle(though there, it was former friends, and midseries events instead of end events, bad it had the same effect of pulling you in and making you want to know what got them there)-but it's pretty good so far. Gonna watch enough DLed eps to get a feel for the main character before adding it to my next order, though.
I am not a comics person at all so can't say whether her addition would be annoying to someone who loves the comics but her character made sense in the movie, though I suppose they could have named her anything else. She makes MJ jealous and shows the rift in the ship (organic one) really well. And she does dangle off things :D
heh...actually, i'm not much of a spiderman fan(very few of the big superheroes interest me because they're always too busy being iconic...the only real exception is wonder woman when she's handled well) I just hate when a spawned medium sacrifices it's canon to be sure to include a piece of comics canon...in this casre, movie MJ is a fusion of comics gwen and mj and they told gwen's relevant plotlines with mj in the first movie, making her irrelevant in movie canon in anything but a "look! gwen!" capacity.
