Manga heaven and some doramas goodness

Apr 10, 2007 22:31

Yeah, I am spamming. I am still reading Red River manga, slowly but steadily. I don't love it (yet) but I do like it. I think the fact that I can just read it at the bookstore really helps (the biggest problem with Basara was that I liked it well enough but not enough to invest in a bunch of volumes sight unseen).

Oh, oh, oh. And THANK YOU calledinvain. I ( Read more... )

kurosagi, youtube, sensual phrase, her majesty's dog, manga, doramas, yamapi, red river

You realize that if I ever make it to your neck of the woods, half my suitcase will be occupied by my Basara collection...

Her Majesty's Dog is great fun...finished book 6 today. And it IS easy to see Maki and Yamapi as Amane and Hyoue...esp. Yamapi as Hyoue.

Though...your descriptions of Sensual Phrase...they scare me...

I love SP but would never foist it on anyone. It's equal parts silly and irresitable. Re: Basara. LOL. Do come and visit :D

HMD is awesome.

Well, like I've said, NEVER have I been warned off a manga as strongly as I was SP back when most of my manga buying was based on recs...I mean, one or two people warn me, I'll weigh the warnings(and what kind they were) against interest level, but I think the only thing I've ever been warned away from as strongly was Laurell K Hamilton.

I actually have a LOT of internet friends in your general area *the size of Texas being her idea of a general area*(if I'm right in thinking you live in the DC area) It's just GETTING there...

I picked up HMD on a whim(much like Night of the Beasts...which I just found out is now on volume 3 and volume 2 NEVER came out her so now I have to special order...) and loved it.

Hey, if you are in the vicinity of DC ever, let me know and I'll buy you dinner :)

HMD is adorable.

Re: SP. Hey, at least they are monogamous :)

Heh...I think I'll be fed the entire time I'm there, even if it's for several weeks.

How do you not love Hyoue? And I adore Amane's cluelessness.

You say monogamous like you can't think of any other good qualities...(but yeah, I know you probably mentioned that due to the LKH comment...)

Hyoue is awesome. And I love Amane. I am going to be broke with all the awesome manga.

There is much awesome manga out there(one other you might like is black cat, which is only 7.95 a pop)

I wish they all followed Viz's pricing structure...make affording them(and being able to check out new series) a lot easier. I think I get between 20-30 manga most months...never lss than 15 I don't think.

Here we go:

I generally think of you when it comes up because you like Vash and Kenshin. Train is a similar kind of character, except he doesn't spend all his time punishing himself for the past simply because the one who influenced him so much wouldn't have put up with it, so he's more concerned about the present and deals with the past when it comes up. I also love his OTP, Rinslet, a con artist/thief who rarely needs rescueing or protecting so much as she needs backup.

omg, laurell k hamilton calledinvain April 11 2007, 03:42:20 UTC
she's just....*shudder* CRAZY. Crazy like Anne Rice taking on the internets (and Amazon.com reviewers!) crazy. I think in her case, she fell in love with her characters too much and now instead of plot, you get porn (and badly written at that) and no one worthwhile ever dies, because she can't bear to part with them, and reading this lady's thoughts on her writing process makes me want to chew my arms off, basically.

Yeah, LKH is...odd. Kim Harrison, sadly, seems to be starting to lean in her direction now that she's coming out in hardcover(a lot of LKH fans just switched authors, so there've been a lot of comparisons, and even though the character stayed monogamous in the first book, i think the writing is on the wall...)
