Still on Beautiful Life and Fruits Basket

Mar 02, 2007 11:31

Before leaving this morning, I needed a pick-me up, so I watched a certain scene from ep 6 of Pride. Meeeeep. Still awesome.

Speaking of awesome, I have continued with my watch of Beautiful Life and am now halfway through episode 7. Love it as much as ever.

Rambly thoughts on the eps )

Your FB posts make me so happy. BTW, it was only up to vol 4 when I discovered it(ditto for wallflower, hana kimi and basara) so I'm long since conditioned to waiting for it ( ... )

Wow, if it was only 4 volumes when I discovered it, I would have gone insane, much as I am currently with Vampire Knight and Genbu Kaiden (OMG! I started rereading because I only read the first two volumes and now five are out and Limdo=LOVE. I love how he is snarky and cynical and tries not to care but of course does. And just think of bi fun Takiko could have if it wasn't for the pesky virgin thing :D).

Haru's love for Yuki is rather like the love they all have for Tohru, because Yuki gave him a since of self worth.

That's a really good point. The explanation did already come up (vol. 5 I think) and I love how all the 'good' characters repay care and consideration in kind (Haru with Yuki, Kyo and Yuki with Tohru etc etc) maybe because they see so little care otherwise. They are all still kids in a lot of ways (as opposed to the awesome Trio who are adults) and have to muddle through to being a good functional person on their own, with little guidance.

I also love how, any time Black Haru feels violent, he picks a fight with Kyo ( ... )

Heh. If I'd know about scanslations when I first started reading manga, all my online time would be spent on them. As it is, I became conditioned to waiting. I've only given in to scanslations for 2 series, both of which people were teasing me mercilessly about future events. Though I'm on the verge of giving in to scanslations of Full Metal Alchemist after stumbling across a couple of spoilers about my OTP that have me slavering ( ... )

I first met Rin in Book 7 (I think) briefly, and then she appears at the end of 9. I really like her.

Uo and Hana completely have Kyo's number as far as Tohru is concerned.

I think everyone does, except for Tohru and Kyo themselves :D

they essentially have no choice. Besides, he's had since birth to condition people who can't defend themselves against him into thinking they're worthless and only exist to serve him.

Oh, I hate Akito so much (I just finished Vol 9 and found what fate he has in store for Kyo). I do love that Kyo's adoptive father stands up to him (YESSSS), and I can see why the current zodiac characters obey because they must and because they've been brain-washed, but there is no excuse for the rest of the family, especially the adults, who are either, scared, or indifferent or all for it as Akito holds the purse strings.

Wow. I MISS reading Fruits Basket. It's been a while since I've read it so reading your posts as someone who's just come into it is utterly insane. It's like I'm rereading it again... Kinda. More like, remembering? Whatever. I've actually been behind, but that's no big surprise. XP I tend to wait for chapters... then FORGET that I'm waiting for chapters and whatnot ( ... )

Yeah, I found out about Momiji's back story (4 or 5?). Poor kid. I feel horrible for him.

He tries to act so strong, but he's really kinda broken inside and Tohru just instictively seems to know this and wants to just... fix him.

I know. I love how he tries to lash out or to hide that he has any weaknesses but of course he is such a mess. I love the scene by the lake because he is so desperate for anyone at all caring, especially her, and he is so terrified inside.

Despite the fact of where it was positioned in the series. XP (Don't want to spoil it in case you've never seen it.) But yeah. The anime was pretty good at that (if I recall correctly) and it seemed just as heart-wrenching.

Oh, I loved that in the manga SO MUCH. And I also love that despite my shippy squee, it wasn't a romantic thing for either of them. Kyo is only now beginning to realize, dimly, that he cares for Tohru as more than a friend, and Tohru is clueless. She isn't doing this because she's in love with him, but because she loves him (if the distinction ( ... )

So, I'm starting to find Fruits Basket all around me. I have a couple of friends who decided one night to randomly imitate the various FB characters and to act out scenes from the manga in both English and Japanese. Then later, as I was IMing with a cousin of mine, she asked me if it was FB that I told her about, oh, probably over a year ago. When I said yes, she said that she'd just found copies of it in her library and had started to read it. Now I'm just waiting to see where it's going to appear next...

Oh, and thanks to you, I finally got motivated to finish watching Goong, and I'm glad I did. Thanks again. :)

Heeee. The coincidence is awesome :)

And isn't the ending of Goong the cutest, fluffiest thing ever?

It is a cute ending, and I'm wondering if you think that they'll really make a second season of Goong.

I hope they will, but I honestly don't think it's very possible to get everyone's schedules to align. Oh well, at least it was left in a place where I am happy if it's the ending. Though more Shin/CG smoochies would be totally worth it :)
