Various, but largely drama-centric

I overslept Veronica Mars last night! I was so exhausted, I sort of collapsed and that was it. Dammit, it sounds like it was a great episode too. Oh well, will obtain it ASAP.

How pathetic is it that I am excited it's Wednesday as it means only two days until the new Hanadan ep. My life is saaaaad. And speaking of Hanadan. Everyone should head ( Read more... )

Trust me, I'm totally trying to wrap my brain around why I can't see it, even in that otherwise visually pleasing photo. I see the handsomeness but not the hot. Does that make any sense? Anyway, it's why I feel I need to see him in some drama. It's like I looked at pictures of the Indian actor Vikram and thought, "Ew, moustached man!" but then saw him in a movie and LOVED him. It's all about the package.

I know what you mean about lack of glossiness in twdramas. Coming off the glossy extreme of Goong, ISWAK seemed positively low-budget during the first episode to me. But I got used to it, since the actors are still pretty as hell and had pretty clothes and well, it did look good in the end.

As for jdramas, well, I was kind of turned off when I ran into some post on d-addicts where some REALLY big Japan fangirl bashed ALL Korean dramas in a really snooty way (and praised jdramas in the same sentence). And anyway, so far there hasn't been a Jdrama that has had the sort of synopsis to really pull me in. Not that I've really looked into it but yeah. Maybe I could like some cracky ones, or then maybe not.

(Considering the fact that Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu are a RL couple makes me giddy, for some weird reason, I'll cut them some slack :D)
I do think real life star couples ARE cute so I totally get where the shipping comes from. I mean, I'm not nuts about any that I can recall right now but some are pretty adorable. Like how I find Aamir and his small wife the most adorable real life BW pair EVER. And Amitabh and Jaya in their young days, gosh the cuteness! But somehow the temptation to buy into all the rumors is even bigger with dramas because you see so much of the actors together in their characters so I guess it just becomes natural and easy to assume they're also dating. And when they feed it in promotion purposes, yeah, happens.

I don't really have this particular dichotomy as to me, handsome=hot, but whatever works :)

The newer the twdrama, the glossier. Silence was quite quite glossy. Grrr, that drama frustrates me so. It would be a perfect drama to recommend: gorgeous people, good acting, neat production values, Victorian style love story. Scenes in the rain. Except for the fact that this is probably one of the most depressing things I've ever seen in my life so, no go.

I think I may have run into the same post and it really annoyed me. Don't even get me started on the whole 'kdramas are drawn out and have cookie cutter stories and jdramas don't always have happy endings and are deeeeep.' Leaving aside that kdramas are as likely as not to have miserable endings and that I prefer the kdrama pace with more room for development, there are plenty of awful jdramas and different stories often turn out odd in them. While my second favorite drama is jdrama (Pride) overall I much prefer Korean ones.

I wish I could rec a good jdrama to you but all my faves have a fair sahre of angst. Though I really think you should check out Pride. It's about hockey and all, not a subject I am much interested in, but the character interactions and the love story and the acting is fantastic. And you might like Kurosagi which seems almost anime-like. I want to kidnap Yamapi and keep him in my basement. Only I don't have one. (Basement OR Yamapi).

And when they feed it in promotion purposes, yeah, happens.

Exactly.

I dunno, to me it's attraction that's not strong enough to become fangirling. Ie "Yes he's good-looking but I wouldn't jump into bed with him."

One Jdrama I will probably check out once fansubs are out is Nodame Cantabile - sounds funny, fluffy and quirky. I'm no fan of classical music but who knows, maybe I'll dig it a lot in context.

I wouldn't jump into bed with him either. Because he'd probably freak and call the cops. Also, Mr. Mousie wouldn't like it :D

Re: NC. I prefer my dramas with an intense dose of angst (Hana Kimi is sort of an abberation) so NC didn't really grab my attention.
