The beginer's (aka my own) doramas guide

Aug 03, 2006 17:37

Because I’ve been talking about doramas so much lately, I’ve decided to make a list of all the doramas I’ve seen, I am watching, or am going to be watching shortly, with a short reason why, plot synopsis and photo. For those who don't know, doramas are Asian (Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, Singaporean etc) miniseries, anywhere from a few to 30+ eps ( Read more... )

doramas, jdorama, eye candy, list

When I get Pride I am going to make you watch it with me. :) There is nothing hotter than men on skates. Trust me.

*tries to resist running off to ebay to buy others*

Deal. Watchalongs work wonders on me, if it's not something I am super keen on at the start.

Tokyo Julieeeeeeeet. Watch Tokyo Julieeeeeeeeeet. Aaaaaaangst :P

I hold fast on Tokyo Juliet! Though just maybe I will have a peet at youtube.

I am ashamed to say I just bought two more Japanese ones - one is Hana Yori Dango and the other was a bit random - Beautiful Life, about a disabled library and a hairdresser. It sounds angstalicous. (But I totally saved on postage buying them together! So I should go and buy more...)

Hmmm, I am curious what you'll think of HYD. It has by far the scariest fashion of all I've seen. Also, you know it's another variation of Meteor Garden, right? (I like MG better). But even with all that HYD is a lot of fun if you can get past the really OTT first ep.

I remembered that from your posting about it. I figured it might be fun and as there are only 9 episodes it doesn't sound like too much of an investment time wise even if it turns out awful.

I just realised I never watched Meteor Rain and I have a copy of that. Maybe I should pop that in this evening if I have time.

Meteor Rain is fluffy fun. More angst and more pretty boys and it's not anything I'd go spare for, but it's enjoyable, quite a lot. Also, with the most cheestastic credits ever.

With HYD, it gets quite good after an ep or two, I promise.

I am intrigued to know what horrors await in episode 1 of HYD. I could probably ff through it if it is really hideous.

Btw, just found out that they are making a second season of HYD later in the year. I am curious what they are going to put in, as they cut out a heck of a lot of the story but ended roughly in the same place (aka Tsukushi telling Doumyouji she loves him).

Beautiful Life is one of Kimura's doramas. I'm a huge Takuya Kimura fan! It's not one of my top 3 by him but it's pretty good and very touching. Yes, there is angst and tragedy, and it's quite lovely, especially towards the end. However, on the shallow level, the Kimura hotness is pretty invisible in this one, as he looks his absolute worst. I watched it and kept thinking he must have been exhausted and sick the whole time he was filming it because he really doesn't look like that with bad skin and awful eyebags.

I am glad to hear that it's not noted for its awfulness. I am just getting into this stuff so I go on dangermousie's suggestions and then just random stuff I see on ebay which sounds like it has a plot that might be fun to watch. (By fun I mean full of angst and pretty people.) So it's a scattershot approach at best.

You should really join jdramas if you haven't already. Other than the reccs I've gotten from friends, I've become interested in other doramas because of posts in that community. For ex. there is a dorama I'm downloadng now called A Love to Kill starring Korean idol, Bi, that I never would have known about otherwise (well, except for the Bi connection) and it looks very interesting.

Ooooooh, A Love to Kill sounds really interesting (I read the synopsis on drama wiki). Btw, I am rather confused. Is jdramas only for Japanese ones or all doramas?

As you probably know by now if you followed the link for the comm, the community is for ALL Asian dramas. Most links are Megaupload. The variety is large. Requests can be made for what is not currently avaialable, or if links have expired. You have to join in order to see anything, but as I've been saying for a while now, if you love Asian dramas, that is the best place to be both to download and also to gain reccs.

Yay. I joined. Now I need to figure out what this megaupload thing is (hey, even if my interest in doramas is going to fade, the tech skills I'll get are going to stick :P). And once I figure that out, I'll go back to that post where people had tech advice on how to burn stuff and have myself a very geeky party.

O_O You don't know what Megaupload is?? Okay, there are these websites that host files. Megaupload, Sendspace, and Yousendit are examples of these. People upload files to those services, and they get a link. That link is to the file they uploaded. You can share that link with whoever you want to make that file available to. You can do this if you're sending someone anything - a zipped file of photos from your last vacation to a friend who lives in China, for ex. because it's faster/easier than snailmailing and you might have a LOT of photos to share and email isn't feasible for more than a few of the pics. Does this make sense ( ... )

I've only used yousendit before (as I said, tech novice). Thank you for the explanation, as it is immensely helpful. I am getting a really fast connection at home next week and then there will be a grand burning party or similar, as I prefer to watch on my TV to my comp.

Btw (and I know I am exposing my utter ignorance here) what is seeding? Makes me think of gardening.
