I Hear Your Voice - eps 6-12

Jul 17, 2013 00:26

I was sobbing and making lunatic noises.

I have marathonned all the existing episodes in 3 days. My brain is scrambled but I am happy.

Also, Lee Jong Suk is fucking amazing - the last few eps put his character through every possible emotional gamut and he more than delivered (I mean, the utter difference between Su Ha with no past and his switch back was incredible - expression, posture, everything).

All the handsiness is making me hot under my (non-existent) collar. Ummm. Ummmmm. My mind is so in the gutter. I will show myself out now.

Enjoy...

They protect each other and they bicker (maturity level = somewhere around second grade) and apologize and tease and get romantic lighting and just, for fuck’s sake, make out already, for my sanity! (Btw, the storyline with the twins made me see red. If she did that in the US, she’d be liable for legal malpractice. Ugh. There is a reason I tune out the law on this show).

I kept chanting: "Please tell me he is not going to do something crazy to protect her." I noticed he never agreed when she told him to never go after Killer, not even if Killer harms her. And he has a switchblade and the look on his face! And she is not just the woman he loves, she is the sole person in his life and OMFG please please my puppies have to end up happy please please please. Oh, and when she took his face between her hands? I think I died. Scratch that, I know I died.

I loved this sequence - from his jumping in to protect her, to her total rage when he gets hurt, to his saving her from a career-altering mistake and then grinning at her until she cools down :P God, they could not be more perfect if they tried.

Once again, their interactions are the highlight of the episode - from the tender beats (when he deflects when she asks if he likes her) to funny ones, to matter-of-fact ones (when she now opens his bottles instead of vice versa because his arm is hurt).

Cuteness!

Su Ha in a suit. I need a moment. Or a dozen. No wonder Hye Sung was goggling. (A practical question - where does Su Ha get all his money? Does he read the stockbrokers’ minds?) But what really got me about this scene wasn’t the suit yumminess (yummy though it was), but how they were so in sync, so comfortable, so happy, so perfectly attuned together. It’s as if they are a couple that is more couply than most actual couple. They have to end up together. I mean, Su Ha has been established as wicked smart, he can go to law school and eventually they can open a firm together. That is why the leaked and now obsolete spoiler about Su Ha dying was just so bad - I don’t mind tragic endings (I am in love with Cruel City and chances of any characters I love making out of that alive are nil, and I am a sageuk fan and those always have huge death tolls), but to me IHYV is a story of hope and healing and finding happiness and purpose despite the worst life throws at you. Sure, Su Ha would have died as a kid if Hye Sung didn’t save him, but it’s not Final Destination and a bright, good 20 year old dying isn’t anything but horrible.

They make me so happy. Enjoy yourselves, woobies, because the angst train is about to hit.

Soo Ha’s heartbreak. Awwww, puppy! Is it bad that I kept thinking that Attorney Cha would be super boring in bed during this scene?

They killed her Mom, didn’t they? The show killed her Mom?! ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH the arc of this show seems to be ‘puppies, rainbows, cute hijinks AND DEATH!!!!’

I really really hate attorney Cha. When Su Ha hit him, I cheered. Cha is fucking worthless. Every time I see him, I want to stab him. Good luck getting Hye Sung to date you after you got the monster who killed her mother and is gunning for her free. You know what got me during episode 8? How he was so unflinchingly there for her - catching her when she collapses, helping her cry, bolstering her in Court, taking all her rage and refusing to be driven away. She tells Cha to leave and he does. Soo Ha stays. She cannot cry in front of Cha but she sobs in front of Soo Ha. Even without the fact that Cha is the wrong choice after the whole trial of Killer thing - how one can forgive that enough to date him I have no idea, but also why would you want to be with a man who doubts your judgment in such a major way - Soo Ha is her wall and her shield (and if she’d only let him, he’d be her sword too). How could she not fall in love with him? Of course she does. And I love that she falls for him because he is good with and to her, because he cares for and protects her. So many times, kdrama ladies go for utter douches because they are rich and had something bad happen to them, thus supposedly excusing all their jerkishness forevermore. Utterly horrible things happened to Soo Ha (and keep happening) and yet Soo Ha remains unshakingly a decent human being, and I love that and I love that Hye Sung loves it.

That incredible kissing scene - and when he cried, I just about died. It wasn’t a particularly sexy or passionate kiss - what made it so indelible was the emotion and the background and the fact that this was his goodbye before he went off to damn his soul and become a murderer to protect her. And his voice when he tells her there was something else he wanted to tell her and the look on her face - when she realizes how he feels. GUH. If these two don’t have a happy ending, I am going to Korea to wreak havoc.

The garage scene where they come within an inch of giving their lives for each other - because he sticks his body under the killer’s knife to save her life but she runs between his knife and the killer to save his soul. And Soo Ha’s little terrified animal noises when he sees her hurt - I was stuffing my hands into my mouth, trying not to lose it. As an OTP, they are EPIC. I mean, a couple that literally throws themselves onto knives to protect each other certainly earns the moniker.

I wonder how much of his memory loss was caused by the horror of Hye Sung’s wound, as opposed to the whole father thing - I think the father thing pushed him over the edge, but he wouldn’t have been this close to the edge to start with, if he wasn’t still reeling from ep 9. But I love that after they meet again, she is his protector, his link to sanity and out of darkness - because that is what he was to her earlier. (And if you think about it, she barely functions when he isn’t around - going through cases by rote, living in a pigsty - but the moment he appears, she is back on track). She is such an utter pit bull in his defense - I am so in love with her and was screaming throughout ep 10. It’s perfect because that is what he used to do for her - defend her to the death. And now she is doing the same when he needs it. They are my OTP of the year. Oh, and LJS is phenomenal here - in the murder reenactment scene, you can see his terror even though all we can see is his eyes, and his memory-loss Soo Ha is so different from the usual ‘ancient in a young body’ he normally is (but with the same core).

All the handholding in these episodes kills me because by now it is as natural to her as breathing - it’s as if they are always beyond words, whether with thoughts or with touch. They are just attuned to each other. Oh, and their looks during the verdict - yup, they need no words.

All the push-pull of this episode got me straight in the heart. I can see why she is fighting her feelings - not only has she fallen for a twenty-year old, it’s not the same Soo Ha as before, but one oddly younger and more vulnerable. But it’s a hopeless fight - when she wakes up in his apartment (where he clearly carried her - they do a lot of putting to bed and tucking in - it’s such a caretaker thing. Oh, and watching the scene of his kissing her hands in context makes it 20x more amazing. He is falling for her all over again - without remembering her or how he loved her. OMFG) and has to fight not to stroke his hair - you’ve lost the fight, girl, just give in. Oh, and when he desperately begged her “Don’t go," I started crying like an idiot. But then the end of that episode and the flashback to her admitting to Cha she likes Soo Ha and the rain and his still sitting there where she left him and her dropping her umbrella and his smile and the way he protects her even as he is soaked himself and just the two of them - I can’t I can’t. He loves and protects her even when he doesn’t remember her. Oh My God. They are perfect. Even Cha has figured it out now. (Also a parallel - now Cha is the one left out in the rain).

I have nothing deep to say about this except that this is their relationship in a nutshell - his protecting her and trusting her even when he doesn’t remember, and her not being able to stay away. (You know, the yearlong separation actually worked out for the best - it gave her time and space to realize her feelings - she couldn’t take him for granted any more).

Yup, you are a goner, girl. Not that I can blame ya.

All their interactions, from adorable to angsty (when he begs her not to avoid him or hate him - ohhh) are so perfect and so full of chemistry. I’ve seen some people commenting that they see them as brother and sister. Either those people have some odd siblings, or their template for brother-sister relationship is the jdrama flick “I am in love with my little sister."

Ummm, this all better be trauma and flashes. If he has a terminal illness, I am going to borrow Killer’s pipe and go to town.

Oh God oh God, they are so Gift of the Magi with each other. And she finally strokes his hair. I am dead.
