I am totally enamored of this version of JOJ. She has always been portrayed as such a demon and this will give us a backstory that hopefully makes us understand her and not be so hateful towards someone who could not defend her reputation. Even if it is fiction, it will still give us the option of thinking of her as a real person who suffered and went through misery to rise to her position as a royal concubine. Her "uncle" is the real villain in this version and who knows if there is some truth to the story. She was a Cinderella on all accounts, but Prince Charming could not save her from her awful fate in life because she was born to a slave and a greedy relative used and coerced her. So far all that love her are destroyed: her father dies, her mother is taken as a slave, her brother disappears, her teacher is killed in a fire, and her godforsaken "uncle" has her life mapped out to his advantage. Thank God her "father" purchased her slaverights (was she really his daughter if he was allowed to do this?) and that was what saved her in her youth.
Loving, loving, loving the cast and the visuals are to die for. The young leads had a beautiful dancelike performance while the fight scene was going on and I thought it was exquisite, tastefully done, musically scored to perfection, and it emphasized what a physical connection they had from the onset. Omo, omo, omo!
