Arang v. Faith poll

Aug 11, 2012 16:02

Both start next week, both are fusion fantasy period dramas which look and feel somewhat wuxia, both star popular actors with huge fanbases. So, why not a poll?

Only 2 kdramas so far this year I've really been anticipating. Though I suspect I'm in a minority in having my interest in Faith go way up when they cast a guy 10 years younger than her, and in hoping the show-canon age difference is about the same.

Wow Lee Min Ho is really 10 years younger than the leading lady? she looks pretty young tho! and ofc beautiful but there are plenty of gorgeous older women out there (Lee Mi Sook I'm looking at YOU) I do love me some noona romancin. I hope they do address the age difference, esp in a period where older dudes married much younger women and the opposite prob rarely if ever happened. (I think they shrink their age difference to five years tho but at least it still exists? Unlike other dramas that erase the age difference or even pretend the younger guy is older -_-)

Yup, they shrink it down to 5 years but that's fine - the difference still exists (no idea if it will be an issue since they will probably be too busy evading the flute killer but who knows). It's not like K2H where they made them the same age :)

I would KILL to watch Lee Min Ho romance Lee Mi Sook.

omg yeeees, Lee Min Ho and Lee Mi Sook *___* she is so hot omg, even tho she's prob old enuff to be his mom or smth. I know she did a photoshoot with TOP (if ur not sure who that is he was the creepy assassin bad guy in IRIS...does that narrow it down at all? XD) and he was like 22 when they did the shoot and omg it was so hooooot. Now I have a thing for Mi Sook and hot young dudes. I just picture her taking them to her den of sin and teaching them a thing or two ;)

I know who TOP is :)

Mmmm, Lee Mi Sook is fierce - and I'd love to see her in a grown-up complicated romance with a much younger man - Lee Min Ho, Kim Bum, Joo Won, Jung Il Woo etc.

Oh woops XD sorry I wasnt sure how well known he is to people outside of kpop fandom!

omg yes to every man on that list, that is a list of gorgeous gorgeous young men. *___* I can just picture Joo Won's angsty face and Jung ill woo's pretty tears and Kim Bum being all charming and saying "noona~" and *happy sigh* korea why wont u give me these things? ;_; everytime I get excited for a noona romance kdrama i get disappointed in the end. Dal Ja's spring was rly cute but I had to FF thru 90% of it because of the boring as shit office drama and secondary romances and I rly liked Flower Boy Ramyun Shop but....everything else.....

Loveholic and Hello My Teacher are other age-difference (and student-teacher) romances. Loveholic has excellent first 4 eps (all the forbidden age-difference love you can want) but after that there is time jump and other things and then it runs in circles for the next 12 eps. I am fond of it, but it's not a great drama. Hello My Teacher is pretty polarizing - I love it but plenty of people don't. Oh, and there is 'Romance'. which is the best of the bunch, IMO, with young Kim Jae Won as Kim Ha Neul's transfer student - it's probably the closest a kdrama can come to Majo No Jouken (which is not very close, but still...).

Hmmm, Woman Who Wants to Marry and What's Up Fox both have a huge age difference but wasn't my thing.

Oh, and Daemul. It's largely political but I did like the romance.

Lemme think about others...

Saw hello my teacher, or rather saw the first few eps but I hated it so much that I didnt continue. Honestly does it even really count Gong Yoo was like 26 when he did that drama right? he sure as fuck didnt look like a kid. I mean I am not saying he needed to be 16 since that would be creepy but like 19? 20? come on now. someone with a baby face maybe? I've never heard of Loveholic but if its like u say it is, then probably I wouldnt enjoy it much past the first few eps :(
Never heard of Romance either but Kim Jae Won *___* he's gorgeous. He was prob a very pretty youngster too. I might give that one a whirl. Kim Ha Neul is pretty cool too.

who was the noona romance couple in Woman Who Wants to Marry again? Kim Bum was in it right? (he's so cute <3) but isnt that drama really long? I remember thinking it was really long and that the couple I actual care about would be a small part of the drama. I tried to watch Whats Up Fox but I thought the male lead was really not attractive at all, just looks wise and the secondary couple drove ( ... )

Romance piles on family secrets on top of student-teacher thing, in case one issue isn't enough. I got sidetracked and didn't finish, but I adored what I saw.

Marry - main couple, Kim Bum and Park Jin Hee. The drama is only 16 eps. It wasn't my bag (not a big fan of PJH) but a lot of people loved it.

Daemul - she is future first female president of Korea, he is a prosecutor. When they first meet, I think he's a highschooler and she is a young professional, but the bulk of it is when they are in their 30s/40s respectively.

ETA: it's hard to find Romance MV since it's an old drama but here is one:

Kiss scene:

OK, it's official, I need to finish this.

I am mainly interested in Faith due to the writer, but I like the age difference.

I was mainly interested because of the writer and the setting, but the age difference shot it up from "acquire as it comes out and start watching after you hear what people think" to "watch that week"

I keep thinking of it as 'Korea does Outlander. Only not awful and rapey.'

No outlander associations! Outlander associations are bad!
