Everything under the sun

1. So, I finally got to the break-up scene in Bu Bu Jing Xin. You know what struck me about it? How much it proves that Ruoxi never loved Eight at all, but had a crush on him because he was good-looking and attentive. But she had no emotional connection or attachment enough to want to deal with it once she processed that the situation was less than perfect (and, let's face it, any relationship, even one less complicated than any relationship with Eight would be, is always less than perfect). Not that any of her grounds for withdrawing are unreasonable - it is reasonable not to want to become a wife to a man who has two wives already, nor is it not unreasonable to not get involved with a man who you know will end his life in a jail cell less than two decades from now. The only unreasonable thing about Ruoxi's behavior is demanding he give up his quest for the throne if he wants to have her, without any explanation whatsoever. What kind of person would agree? BUT. Contrast it to the way she is with Four - she loves him despite the fact that he has other wives as well (ah, the joys of polygamous society!) and she knows her history - Yongzheng may be a winner when it comes to getting the throne but he's no God's gift to anyone - I am not even referring to the way he will treat Eight and Nine - this is the man who ordered his own son to commit suicide so there won't be a succession fight. Being with him will NOT be a bed of roses. And yet, Ruoxi loves him despite all that, loves him until her death. Ultimately, that is why I feel so sorry for Eight - it's not that he had Ruoxi's love and lost it. It's that he never really had it at all.

2. When I stopped with my watch of K.O. 3an Guo, I stopped with ep 37. However, it was a while, so when starting my binge, I went a few eps back, and restarted my watch with ep 34-35. In which we have Guan Yu defending the honor of his "Big Sister-in-Law" Shang Xiang (and losing for the first time ever!), an apprearance by Sun Quan (played by the awesome Xie Jie Kai), a blessed lack of Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu (who are getting on my nerves lately) and a LOT of handholding. A LOT.

Guan Yu cause I love him.

I love Xiu/Shang Xiang - she is totally my girlcrush in this and he is so very awesome. And the way they face down Yuan Shao = love.

The gang!

I told you the handholding is everywhere...

It has infected Guan Yu and Diaochan!

Yuan Shao defeats Guan Yu. I believe that is the first time in the drama GY in posession of his powers has been defeated. Impressive!

Sun Quan! I love you, you sexy evil bastard you!

While we are at it, where is Zhou Yu? I need more of him! So does Xiao Qiao :P

3. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho continues so wonderful. The last scene in ep 8 took my breath away.

Is it just me or does No Min Woo looks freakishly like Joo Ji Hoon in this shot?

4. So, The Princess' Man. I confess to neglecting it for a bit due to my obsession with BBJX, but now I am back on track. I watched ep 17 and peeked at one specific scene in ep 20.

Even if I didn't ship them, I'd love their interactions because that is the most alive SY ever is.

A lot of significant scenes occur on horseback for this couple - we went from romanticism of their lessons to the darkness of his taking her when kidnapped to this - a fragile kind of peace.

This is a gorgeously shot drama. I confess that despite the drama trying to get us to see Sooyang as a villain, I don't. Also, I really want to tel SR to cut her father some slack. Does she really have to disobey every single thing he says? Is it any doubt he'd be a better king than a kid? She's lucky her father is indulgent with her because I could see it all going badly with her otherwise.

I cried.

So much unspoken between them but even more impossibilities...

I like that despite it all, there is a sort of camaraderie between them, despite the barbed words.

This drama is not as beautifully shot as cdramas usually are but it is cinematically elegant in in its quiet way.

The scene where shadows of past violence and current family life/attempt at normalcy juxtpose was beautifully done. Though really, SY, joining a doomed rebellion is even worse than offing people on the streets.

I have no idea for the context for this scene in ep 20 but I loved, more than any shipping, the peacefulness of this. It's been so long since SY had any sort of peace and kind touch - so long since he allowed himself to be human enough to have it, secure enough.

5. While waiting for subs for Sword Heroes' Fate, I peeked at ep 31, where Nic Tse finally succeeds getting the amulet that will restore Charlene's memories and idenity. AWWWW. Gosh. Though I wish there was an easier way to rekindle a spark in their relationship than battles to the death (wtf is with the bad guy anyway - what kind of psycho traps a bunch of people in a violent sim game and wipes a woman's memories and personality just so he could lure her bf in for a gamer battle? Honestly).

6. Once I finish with KO 3an Guo, I really must continue with The X-Family. I stopped on ep 6 because it's a prequel of sorts to KO 3an Guo and thus was getting confusing. Have a MV. It's very shounen-like and I like that sort of thing.
