This clip from "Vorvrashenya Mushketyorov" (Return of the Musketeers - apparently about Musketeer offspring) is from a movie made when I was already an adult, but it's pretty typical of movies of my childhood. My formative impression must have come from the 1975 Michel Strogoff production. The "Oh, Nadia" song still haunts me (though I remember it in the Finnish translation).

Thinking of the story, no wonder I like angsty love stories. :D

The blinding scene is forever etched in my memory.

Looks like it was a German production, which highly surprises me, probably filmed in Hungary, based on crew names.

Hah, in my childhood memories it was always a Russian series. But I must have been like 6-7 when it aired here. I only read the book when I was well past 10.

It's a German mini-series. Here is it's IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074024/combined - looks like it was 7 episodes. Like I said, I saw it as a child, so I have no idea where one would find it nowadays.
