If you read this journal with any regularity, you know that kdrama romcoms and I don't really mesh and haven't for the last few years. Hybrid kdramas with some romcom elements I can fall madly for (Secret Garden and Prosecutor Princess come to mind) but proper romcoms I have truly loved in the last few years - I think the count is at zero. The closest I came to was with Mary Stayed Out Last Night, where I bailed by ep 12, but first the first 2/3 of the drama very addictive as far as the OTP went even as I disliked everything else.
That is why I continue to be completely shocked that I am adoring Myung Wol the Spy so. There is no question MW is every inch a romcom. And yet I am so so so so addicted. Despite my romcom trepidation, I checked out MW for two reasons (1) I find Eric hella sexy and (2) the story synopsis - North Korean agent ordered to seduce and marry a Hallyu star - was going to be good or bad but would always be interesting. But I did not expect to really love it. Imagine my shock when, eight episodes in, I am still addicted - I laugh, I find the story (such as it is - it's a romcom, thus not particularly plot driven) interesting, and I swoon like mad at the OTP chemistry. And unlike with Mary (or Heartstrings), I like the drama in general, not just suffer through the other bits to get to the OTP. I cannot wait to watch eps 9 and 10, which is what I plan on doing as soon as I post this, in fact.
Also, in ep 8, KW found out MW was after him for ulterior motives (though not that she is a NK agent :P)
Please tell me this will result in another angsty shower scene:
Oh, and ep 8 was the one with this. Finally. Mmmmmm.
Bring on more! This MV, which includes stuff from 9 and 10, makes me salivate.
