OMG, I shouldn't be surprised that this drama raises the stakes in each episode but I still ended up gobsmacked after watching episode 16. This is epic and what more, it's great writing. All the clues were here from the start.
I've always thought it odd that the president went to see YS's mother at the beginning of the drama. The tone of their conversation was strange as well. I did wonder if they'd had a thing but then the writers cleverly heaped some other stuff on us and I never thought about it again. I filed it under a header titled "Pres had a friendly relationship with his bodyguard and knew his family pretty well".
I am pretty sure this is when YS would find out the truth and is there any doubt that it would destroy him, mind and soul, utterly? He's already teetering on the edge as is.
That or something even more cruel to my mind: having him know *before* he takes him down. It would be like a parallel to what YS himself was going to do to Prosecutor when he wanted him to bring down his own father. Oh, the anguish it would cause him. Because YS would still feel moraly obligated to bring down his father after he finds out. After all, he's still responsible for those 20 lost lives.
What's sure is that we'll be crying a lot more before this is over. There are 4 episodes left so I think we can look forward to at least a few quieter scenes but otherwise it'll feel like being onboard a runaway train about to crash at the bottom of a mountain.
And with YS being the President's son and all the tragic stuff ahead, there is almost no way this is just a City Hunter origin story, which makes a happy ending less likely as well. I know I talk too much about Hong Gil Dong but it seems to me City Hunter is going the same route: In HGD we were all fooled by the opening scene and the Robin Hood legend as we know it and thought that it would end with the gang continuing their activities. In City Hunter we were hanging on to the hope that it would end with YS fully established as the City Hunter and that he would sail into the sunset with Nana, bickering all the way and saving some citizens. I think there's still a slim chance that YS won't die/go to jail though. At least, I need to believe there is for my own sanity.
To get back to less revenge driven stuff...I wonder if we'll get to see Nana and Prosecutor interact again. The last scene they had was after she learned whose son he was IIRC. To get more angst on the relationship front, they could have YS witness an exchange between the two and be devastated about it. He did tell her to find another man (Gosh, he'd die if he saw her with someone else).
I totally forgot that the president wasn't actually the president back in 1983. So MY wouldn't have been his bodyguard. Probably like a little brother then.
This is a rare drama I am glad I am unspoiled for!
I didn't even think anything weird about Pres going to see a random woman because I was all 'oh he feels bad for her husband' but then why didn't he go to some other family member of one of the other 20?
That or something even more cruel to my mind: having him know *before* he takes him down.
It would even more cruel because at least Prosec knew all the facts for years. This would be YS finding out that everything has been a lie in his life at one point (who his father is, Undaddy, revenge, lies about his Mom dumping him etc) except for Nana. But I don't know if Undaddy will risk it, he seems to think YS is weak.
This drama is getting darker and darker and more and more wound up. I can still see it as an origin story if we are lucky, but then I kept believing HGD wuld have a happy ending until the last ep.
Oh, also I thought, remember that nightmare YS had about him and Nana shooting each other as Undaddy gloats? I sort of thought that got addressed when Nana got shot but what if it's a parallel/foreshadowing for when she is the President's bodyguard? Oh, I can't bear it.
He did tell her to find another man (Gosh, he'd die if he saw her with someone else).
A part of me wants her to really go out with someone else. Because he really shouldn't have said that to her and I want him to reap what he sows but then I see how much he is suffering and surely he's been punished for any transgression in his life ten times over.
Btw, remember Nana telling him that he should tell her now that he will come to her once his revenge is over and if he doesn't tell her now, she won't take him back even if he comes to her after? I am kinda worried, sure she loves him, but she is a woman of her word. What do you think?
But I don't know if Undaddy will risk it, he seems to think YS is weak.
That's was I was thinking as well. Narratively I think telling him beforehand to torture him because he'll still be obliged to take RealDaddy down would have more impact but Undaddy has seen that YS is more human than he would like so that would be a risk. But wouldn't that also be a test: "Here are the facts. Now take care of Target n°5 aka Daddy". And if YS doesn't comply, maybe he'd planned to kill both the president and YS.
We'll see how this play out.

I've been thinking about it as well. So far, the drama has never given us useless info/conversations. So we can be pretty sure that heartbreaking conversation between the two will come back into play. I guess what will happen depends on whether Nana was in earnest when she said it. She doesn't strike me as the kind of girl that would give an ultimatum like that. She will stand firm on her stance as long as it's just day to day stuff but if YS's life is threatened, I don't think she'll be able to keep to her word.
But I don't really know what to think. The drama could take so many turns. I both dread and anticipate what's going to happen.
I love not knowing what would happen but it scares me too. I haven't been this anxious since Chuno.
I think Nana was in earnest but I also think that it's just she will want more work/proof from YS that he won't do his cold/hot thing again before she takes him back. I hope.
I don't think Undaddy will tell him before because he doesn't want 'fail test, I kill you', he wants YS to get Pres no matter what because the goal is for Pres to be hurt in the worst way, i.e. by his son. YS is collateral damage and a tool. But we'll see.
