I think I might be adding to my small list of Asian groups I like
I figured out fairly quickly (OK, I am lying, it took me 20 eps or so :P) into KO 3an Guo that Dong Cheng Wei is a real-life rock band. And Xiu a.k.a. fake Liu Bei (who is fast becoming my fave character in the drama) is DCW's guitarist. I probably should have known from the moment they were doing close-ups of his hands playing guitar - they tend to avoid it like the plague with actors who are only pretending to know how to play.

Apparently they are an 'underground' rock band (whatever that means) formed in high school who stuck around ever since and apparently Jiro Wang is a member who used to be lead vocals until he got drafted into Farenheit (though apparently he's also still with DCW? Not sure how that works).
Here they are performing the end theme of K.O. 3an Guo with Pets Ceng, who plays Shang Xiang in the drama:
Also, totally random, but while looking at stuff on wiki, the Jiro article says "When he was 18, his father died, leaving him with his mother to pay the family's debt. This forced him into the commercial and modeling industry." How insane. I thought that only happened in dramas, but apparently not.
Speaking of Jiro - I started The X-Family and really didn't care for ep 1 - I can't say it is more OTT than KO 3an Guo, because KO 3an Guo was pretty insane, but in KO 3an Guo I knew who the characters were and had a structure due to knowing about Three Kingdoms (and a lot of fun came from seeing that classic so spoofed) but with X-Family, I do not have the same structure so I am pretty lost and there is nothing for me grab on as a lifeline in the sea of insanity.
However, I always give at least 5 eps to a drama, especially a long one, and I persevered. And I am glad I did because I really liked ep 2 - I think culture shock has worn off an I am settling in. Plus how could I not be lenient towards a drama that has Jiro look like the dorkiest dork who ever dorked:
And who turns into this when his powers are released. The powers of crazy styling, I presume :P
Plus, Xiu! I have the world's biggest crush on his character in K.O.3an Guo.
So much fun.
