Is it possible for anyone to be so appealingly doomed?

I have restarted Chinese Paladin 3 (which despite its name, is not really a sequel to anything). A fantasy drama which involves saving the world, zombies, warrior monks, reincarnation, goddesses and demons, and perilous quests, CP3 is not a drama which even the most indulgent critic would call brainy or deep in any way.

But it is (a) fast-paced (b) entertaining (c) tongue-in-cheek when it matters.

More importantly, its cast is basically a who's-who of Mousie's Mainland favorites - Hu Ge plays the protagonist, a greedy and not particularly brave pawnshop employee who finds out he's a reincarnation of a banished divine general and must save the world (yes, he does grow a spine and yes, he does angst beautifully - though it hasn't happened fully where I am at, yet). Yang Mi is Hu Ge's OTP, who's literally a fruit of a goddess' longing for the banished general. She's fun and strong-willed and rather spoiled and very darling and I love her character. She and Hu Ge are pretty cute together. Wallace Huo plays the sexy and deadly warrior monk who has a star-crossed and doomed love with Tang Yan, who plays a 200-year-old descendant of an earth-guarding goddess. Apparently, they have loved each other in the past two lifetimes and it ended beyond badly both times. So when he was reincarnated this time, the monks sealed his memories of past lives because they were worried the feelings were so strong, he'd remember them despite the reincarnation. One problem - he loved her so much, the seal can't hold. Mmmmm. They are my OTP of the drama. And then there is Liu Shi Shi, a 1000-yr-old, recently awakened princess of a long-gone kingdom. She and a previous reincarnation of Hu Ge were siblings. I like them a bit too much for the sibling thing - CP3 makes me ponder if it's really incest if it's a sister and her brother's future reincarnation. Hmmmm.

Anyway, while I am not too madly in love with Hu Ge's 'present day' character (I like him just fine, much more than I would if he was played by anyone else, and I am sure once he starts being gritted-teeth heroic, I am going to be hook, line and sinker), I am completely obsessed with his previous incarnation as the doomed Crown Prince of the doomed Kingdom of Jiang. He's honorable, good fighter, angsty, close to his sister (perhaps a bit too close? I sort of wish one of them was adopted and I could ship without guilt) and I sort of wish the whole drama was about that incarnation.

In modern day:

A thousand years ago, with his sister.

Loved this scene.

Trying to comfort his dying mother.

Have a general CP3 MV (deaths in it are from previous reincarnations so I don't think this one is spoilery).

In other news, watched ep 29 of Young Warriors of the Yang Clan which was generally happy and amusing (stuff with Seven made me LOL) but Pan Renmei's daughter is clearly turning into a worthy Pan in her obsession with Six, which cannot be good.

She's freaking me the heck out. Go away, stalker!
