Jade Palace Lock Heart - ep 7 - it's subbed now. Plus other cdrama stuff

I adore Concubine Xi. She's my favorite female character except for our heroine, Qing Chuan. Because she's ruthless and smart and awesome. I bet she won't come to a good end (not a spoiler just speculation based on the fact that historically nobody came out happy out of this except for Four) but for now, rock on, lady!!!!

* I really really love her merchant friend - he's cute, nice, and respects her wishes. Despite my rabid QC/Eight ship, a part of me wishes she could fall for him and they could run far away from all the execution-happy lunatics in the palace and live somewhere far far away.

* This drama really gives me all my favorite cliches, doesn't it? The bit with QC getting a bad cold was like my fanfic dreams come true! I actually loved to bits that nobody was going to bother giving a mere servant any medicine until Eight heard about this and then of course it all became "of course, the best for you, what a special young woman you are blah blah blah." I guess imperial physicians don't take the hyppocratic oath. But how adorable was it that he sat up with her all night when she was sick! And was so worried and then so embarassed when she woke up. EEEEE! So cute. He really is like a big kid. A big kid that can off you by lifting a finger, but that's details.

* Is there something wrong with me for finding it very cool that part of Qing Chuan's reasoning for refusing to consider Eight as a prospect is because she knows her history and knows nothing good happened to him. She's pragmatic and hard-headed in her way. So very awesome. But yeah, she's totally warming up to him.

* Nine and Ten and their teasing of Eight keep cracking me up. They are like the imperial version of fratboys.

* Concubine Xi, you ROCK!!!! I love that she's so smart and quick with plans. The second she saw how Eight was worried for QC (because she was there when he found out QC was sick), she went into planning overdrive - after all she has no children so once Kang Xi dies, whichever one of his kids inherits, she's left out in the cold with no power or position (and if a son with a living mother inherits, she can be subject to some payback by that mother). So she desperately needs to latch on to a viable throne contender and Eight is her best bet so far - as he's in the running and he's never seen his mother (they said she's been locked up??? Huh?) so he doesn't have that role already filled. So of course Concubine Xi does everything to fascilitate his getting together with QC - that will get her into his good books. When you add in the fact that QC is in the palace illegally (and thus can be beheaded whenever she's caught) and that her real life status is not such Eight would ever be allowed to marry her or even take her for a concubine, this is a perfect plan. Concubine Xi can shove them together, she can provide a cover family so QC would be of sufficient status, but she can also expose QC and get her killed - it's a perfect carrot and stick scenario. I love how quickly Eight agrees to Concubine Xi's terms - because he knows he needs to protect QC. AWWWWW. Of course, that means he's sort of thrown his hat into the heir ring which pits him against Four and nothing good can come of it.

Off to watch more.

In news of other cdramas I want to watch, here's a trailer for the upcoming Sword Heroes' Fate with Nic Tse and Charlene Choi. I don't know if it's because he starred in the very first wuxia drama I've ever seen or some other reason, but for whatever reason, I cannot not watch any wuxia Nic Tse makes, good bad or indifferent. (I am probably one of the only five people who genuinely liked Da Ren Wu!)
