I've finally found a romance novel to obsess over

After a sting of dreadful disappointments (I have finally decided to accept that the one Gaelen Foley book I loved was a fluke as the rest of them did not work for me at all), I finally found a romance book I am genuinely obsessed with - Suzanne Enoch's England's Perfect HeroLucinda Barrett, the commonsense daughter of Gen. Barrett has decided on a ( Read more... )

You might like to check out Lisa Kleypas' Secrets of a Summer Night. The heroine, Annabelle, is upper class but impoverished and looking for a respectable husband to help her family. The hero, Simon, is new money and wants her as a mistress. I thought Annabelle was wonderfully sensible, determined, and smart.

I second that rec. Many readers disliked Annabelle for what they saw as her "money-hungry ways" but I loved her. She's a pragmatic that looks out for herself without being nasty about it.

Seriously? I liked Annabelle quite a bit.

I think a lot of people prefer the 3rd book, Devil in Winter, because of Sebastian, but I wasn't that impressed with him. I also thought Evie lost her shyness too quickly.

I need to get around to reading the 4th in the series, I enjoyed them all as a whole.

Yeah, I was surprised at the cool reception Annabelle got as a heroine. For myself, I really appreciated reading about someone who didn't lose her senses as soon as she laid eyes on the hero ( ... )

Hmm, could I tempt you to try Science Fiction Romance "Games of Command" by Linnea Sinclair? It has a kickass, super competent heroine and a hero to die for (he's kinda half cyborg though, but a very hot one). I think you would like their relationship. I could send you the ebook version if you'd like. I love that book so much that I have two copies of it at home: one to sit on my keepers shelf and one to lend to unsuspecting parties so that I can convert them to the awesomeness that's Linnea Sinclair.

Ooooh, I'd love a link. I love scifi and I love romance. What better than two great tastes going together?

Hi, dangermousie! Since I have the self-flagellating habit of googling myself, I saw your blog and I wanted to say thank you. Out of 30-odd books I've written, I get the most email about EPH and Robert Carroway. I'm really proud of writing him.

And just fyi, my next book, RULES OF AN ENGAGEMENT (out Oct 26th) is the story of the 2nd Carroway brother, Bradshaw.

Oh my Gosh!

I have no idea if you ever read this, but I almost literally started shrieking when I saw your reply.

I really really love your novels (I only discovered them two days ago but I am already on my third one - it's wreaking havoc on my pre-planned reading list). Even the plots that would normally not be my thing somehow become entertaining and funny and romantic when you write them.

OK, and now that I have embarassed myself and sound like an insane fangirl, I better stop.

I am really looking forward to Rules of an Engagement! (Or anything else you may write).

I seem to remember enjoying The Rake (and most of her earlier books) unless she has two books with very similar plots. IIRC, she was generally pretty good at making typically cringey setups fun.

No, I think that is the only one with that plot (I red all the summaries for all her novels available on Kindle).

I know, because I liked it, I dled another one which normally has a plot I'd flee from (good-hearted heroine and black-hearted cad) but I am incredibly entertained because heroine gives as good as she gets and at one point locks him up in a cellar for a week :)

Oh, I remember that book! I was sick with the flu one weekend and instead of watching a bunch of movies, I went out and bought as many books by the authors who wrote the Lady Whistledown as I could find. (I was already a big fan of Julia Quinn.) EPH was definitely the best of the bunch, though I did like the rest of the trilogy. But there was something about EPH that just transcended the romance genre. I wish there were more books like it.

I know. It really had something special that the other Enoch books that I read (much as I enjoyed them) did not have. It really is a book I'd recommend to someone who doesn't even like romance.
