all of this is EXACTLY what Dramabeans has been saying (I don't always agree with her but when I do I very much agree) and that's why I had crossed this off my list to watch - because a)Gun-Wook's protaganist is not that interesting - DB wishes, also, that it could be the Tae-sung show and b)because it's not actually a revenge story - and the dark revenge aspect of it (combined w/Kim Nam Gil) was what drew me.
Now? I'll probably still watch it if just for the subplot of Tae Sung, but I wish it could've been a straight-up revenge drama instead of a melodrama.
I need to watch Mawang, too. I doubt I"ll ever watch Green Rose as Go Soo does ZILCH for me, but Mawang I could get behind (what's Joo Ji-hoon up to, these days, anyway? is he on military duty, or still in disgrace from the scandal?)
OMG, is the universe coming to an end? Dramabeans and I never have the same opinions on anything (which is why I stopped reading her reviews and now only read news bites when she posts them

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. Bad Guy seriously fails at being a revenge drama, I wish they had just cut that whole storyline. I mean, it's not like it would have affected the plot anyway

I think the drama found itself in a kind of awkward spot because it's at the crossroad between a melodrama and a revenge drama. The revenge angle comes back in full force starting from episode 12 (I caved in and watched eps 10-13 on Viikii). Had they been able to keep to their 20-eps plan, this would have balanced things more between the melo and the revenge

You think a Mawang ending will be bad? I am thinking it's heading for a Bali ending and that's even worse.
I am liking GW/JI more and more though overall still on TS/JI train. I basically ship whoever she is with atm which I suppose guarantees I'll be happy whichever way it turns out as long as one of the guys is still standing at the end.
I think JI could fall for TS for real as time goes on. Tbh, I think she is attracted to both GW and TS quite a lot, though likely more to the former (HGI and KJW have lovely lovely chemistry together).
I still haven't watched Bali but I heard a lot of things about the traumatic ending. What would be bad for me about a Mawang ending would be to have the same "partner betrayal". I hope we're not headed toward the same route with GW's associate forging on ahead despite GW's order to stop, and I think he'll decide to stop at some point the way things are going

But as far as I remember in Mawang, unless I am hallucinating, he didn't get stabbed by his partner but by a relative of one of the people he offed in his revenge (the son, I believe) which was oddly poetic. And that one last out he gave was screwed up not by his partner but UTW's older brother. Ultimately, I don't think he could get out of that tunnel at all

SOAM was not my type of drama (for various reasons too long to go into) but it was very tightly written.
KNG is amazing in this though, even with the character's limitations.
