Wallflower live action - oh thank you, THANK YOU, drama gods!

First ep of live-action adaptation of Wallflower (also known as Perfect Girl Evolution or Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Hange) is out - you can watch it (streaming, great video quality, no subs) here.

I have only watched the first ten minutes and the very end but...

Oh, thank God!.

My favorite manga in this Universe is not ruined but instead it looks like an adaptation I am going to adore!

Quick plot summary - Wallflower's story starts when four attractive but broke guys get asked by their eccentric rich landlady to help turn her niece Sunako into a lady. If they can do it, they get to live rent-free but if they fail, their rent doubles. The usual Cinderella story, right? WRONG. Enter Sunako, one of my favorite heroines ever, a tough, horror-movie-loving, violent Goth whose best friend is a skeleton and who has no desire to be made over whatsoever.

I was worried the off-kilter atmosphere would be ruined, I was worried they would tone done Sunako's weirdness and toughness, I was worried worried worried.

But I was worried wrongly! If there is any sight more awesome than Sunako and Kyohei kicking kidnapper butt together dressed up in fancy clothes (see end of ep), I have yet to behold it. Sunako's weirdness and toughness and scariness are intact (I am not familiar with the leading lady from anywhere before but she is super-awesome as Sunako). Oh, and the atmosphere is hilarious and tongue-in-cheek, and Kame, while not my notion of Kyohei physically (he's a good-looking guy, sure, but good-looking enough to send men and women into a hormonal frenzy?) embodies Kyohei violent dorky personality perfectly. Plus, it looks like it's sticking pretty close to the manga so far (with some understandable changes or additions) so I can easily follow it with no subs.

How can you not watch a drama where in the first 10 minutes you get:

* Heroine showing up and scaring our four 'heroes' by her very presence.
* Kame getting his ass groped by his restaurant manager, snapping, trashing the place, and losing yet another place of employment.
* The awesomeness of Noi - not only is the scary weird girl cool, guess what, the nice popular one is too!
* Sunako advancing with a bloody knife...freaking out the guys like mad...only to proceed to make the best sashini ever.

In conclusion, I am amused that just as in the manga, I can't always tell Ranmaru and Takenaga apart :)
