To satisfy the black hole left by the end of IRIS and also because of
ambergold's posts, I've embarked on my rewatch of Beautiful Days, otherwise known as "Lee Byung Hun makes Dangermousie hyperventilate yet again."
Guuuuh, BD is such a quintessential perfect melodrama. I love.
This time around, I am even more kindly disposed towards Ugly Brother. After all the man can't help being a fat hideous twerp with the personality of a toad. Nor can he help his unfortunate clothes and whiny voice. He nontheless performs a valuable function - by allowing me to ff through all his scenes, he allows me to save a lot of time - time I can then spend blissfully contemplating Lee Byung Hun be all awesome as the hero. His character is so competent and brusque and kind and grown-up. With trust issues a mile wide. LOVE.
Side note - I am going to LOL forever at the fact that LBH's awesomeness trumps even childhood love - Ugly Brother is the Heroine's childhood love and her inspiration - she's dreamt of meeting him again and, in fact, initially mistakes LBH for him (talk about trading up). When she eventually finds out her mistake she - carries on with LBH basically treating Ugly Brother as a sweet, dim type of primate. Good for her. Whatever else may be going on, it's nice to know she is not blind or mentally damaged.
How come I have no LBH icons? Gimme!
