The fake kpop band A.N.JELL and its crew are soon to be upon us:
Yes, You're beautiful is growing closer and closer upon us.
I await the story of an idol boyband one member of which is, in fact, a girl with a great deal of excitement and also trepidation. Why trepidation?
The teaser for the drama is out. And frankly, it's horrible. It makes me think of a jdrama, and I don't mean that in a complimentary way. Let me put it this way, Pride or Itoshi Kimi E or Utahime aren't the jdramas I am thinking of. I am thinking of those ridiculous, shrill, and horrifying ikemen dramas with hordes of scrawny girlboys, drama-fangirls, ridiculousness and total lack of plot or emotional sense. GRAH.
This said, I am still quite enthusiastic - Brilliant Legacy's teaser was awful and look how it all turned out. Not to mention that I adore everything Hong Sisters ever did, I like the cast, and the whole set-up is reminding me of BOF's F4 - one emo brat, one prettyboy played by an idol singer, one unknown, and one character played by someone with some previous acting acclaim. Only there is no Jandi and one of the F4 is, in fact, a girl. Heeee.
I keep thinking, also, that their choice for male lead, Jang Geuk Seok, is about as perfect as you could get for this role (he sings, he's eccentric in a popidol fashion etc) - he seems tailormade. The only other aternative would be to cast an actual idol singer but except for Lee Seung Gi (who is probably taking a break after Brilliant Legacy), they all either have no acting experience and ability or are too old.
Also, courtesy of the awesome
mamarocker_83, here are two clips from the mini-concert A.N.JELL did. So like a real kpop band :)

The whole set-up is actually reminding me of this cute manhwa called Chocolat where the heroine is a fan of famous band DDL but she knows if she joins the fanclub, she's so far behind she'd never get to special events or tickets on the pecking order. So she does what any smart girl would do - look at the performance schedule and realize that a starting-out, almost unknown band is playing at most of the same venues. So she pretends great enthusiasm said band and becomes an officer in their fanclub - that way she can get to all the events. Of course, she simply must keep her "secret." I sort of stopped following it once publication became irregular due to IceKunion's troubles and also because I shipped her with the bratty but very sweet lead singer who discovered her secret but it was clear she was going to get together with the angsty bad boy member (guitar? I think?). While I am sure she can fix his issues, this being a manhwa (and this being a Korean story, I am sure his trauma is seeing his parents and baby sister dead in a basement or something similarly cheerful), why bother when there is a guy who is already fixed? Is it because she likes hard work? But it's a very very cute manhwa nontheless. No crossdressing though.
