Worlds Within has ruined me for other dramas! At least for a time.
I am not exaggerating - I tried 3 dramas tonight and had to give up - I kept comparing them with WW and they became unwatchable because of it.
First I tried Fly High - bad mistake. Apologies in advance to anyone who liked it but UGH. Even without WW's perfection, Fly High would have been atrocious - in addition to poor visual quality (which to be fair, was not the drama's fault - but the uninventive and snooze-worthy cinematography was) we had the stereotypically, irritatingly cutesy heroine (she missed her bus, hit someone with a shoe accidentally, and tripped, all within the first two minutes of the drama!) and the even more stereotypical icy family-issue-laden CEO who never works despite his lofty title (did I mention that he was supposed to be a native English speaker but I could not make out a word he was saying?). Both of the main characters were paid by actors who were unattractive and could not act. Ugh. UGH.
Then I tried Crazy for You, which I normally would like a lot - I have started it some time ago but then needed to get dvds with better subs which I finally did. But despite my liking it, it just didn't draw me in at all, even though it normally would - it was excellent, I just could not get into the mood in the slightest - WW's realness just made me fixate on dramaness of this (which is normally something I'd love). However, I see myself adoring it in the future and it's excellent example of angsty melodrama - I will definitely watch more when I am in a different mood.
The same goes for Lawyers of Korea - it's a good drama but I couldn't help but compare it with WW and had to turn it off.
And then I stopped trying. I was considering bringing out heavy guns in the shape of Friend but then decided that the whiplash shock from seeing Hyun Bin go from an intellectual director of WW to a brutal thug of Friend would be too much for me in such a short span of time :P And then I got tempted to rewatch Hong Gil Dong (or anything else period, like continuing with Emperor of the Sea or Return of Iljimae) but opted for reading instead as it was late.
You have ruined me, WW! For non-period dramas, at least.
