Worlds Within: thoughts on ep 5

Aug 14, 2009 23:51

World Within continues to be pitch-perfect: there is one moment between Ji Oh and Jung Young in episode 5 which is so giddily romantic and in-love it makes me swoon but yet so normal and real I could easily see myself or people I know in it.

Another thing I find so interesting is how each episode sets out a theme, so to speak, with an opening narration by either Ji Oh or Jung Young but sort of modifies it by the end - e.g. in ep 5, Jung Young muses in the beginning that if there is one thing she could change about Korean drama limitations it's the concept of Sungyoung (i.e. 'self-sacrificing devotion') because it's unrealistic.

But the rest of the episode proves her wrong but in a very different way - people are capable of self-sacrificing devotion and unconditonal love, even if it's not necessarily going to be towards a partner - see e.g. that actress who goes through men like socks and who treated Kim Minchul so badly - she is capable of sungyoung, but not towards a partner but towards her mother. Or take Jung Young herself (or Ji Oh) - from the spoilers I have seen they are also capable of it in a relationship, even if it is on a human scale, not the crazy emotional hothouse of dramas, but even without that, she is capable of self-sacrificing devotion to her work, as is Ji Oh - they work at crazy pace for months with barely any sleep or food to produce the product which is as perfect as they can make it. And yet, this point is never hammered into our heads. You can think of it or not, as you choose.

This drama is so ridiculously good!

That little break in the middle of their work schedule made the episode for me - it really is the sum of their relationship - it's playful, and giddy, and hormonal, and shot through with their craziness about their job too. Just - so perfect. Remember that feeling of everything being a little brighter when that one person is around and impatience to see them? This drama conveys it so well.

I ship them so ridiculously much, too! Make it happen, WW!

(Side note: I had to cut my caps down to 1/5 because I realized a lot of caps were just caps of how gorgeous Hyun Bin is). You know, it's interesting, but his past relationship with his first love, with whom he had an off-on thing for a decade really does shadow this new relationship, especially since Jung Young and Ji Oh tried dating before and have been friends for years - so she is aware of its importance - I think she has an inedequacy complex because that is something hard to compete with. I do love her conclusion at the end of the ep that it doesn't matter if she loves him more than he loves her as long as he will run to her when he sees her (it's not that he loves her less than she loves him, but I can see why she has that insecurity and she came up with a great way to cope with it - does the degree of love matter as long as both of them love the other?) But then of course she can't help but flare up a bit with jealousy now and then.

I really love this character, a popular, eccentric, no-nonsense writer:

This was just - I don't know, I have no words for how perfect this was.

She asks him to bring her a change of underwear and he actually takes time to match it, heeee.

And fold all her messed-up laundry. LOL.

He is a neat-freak and she is a piggy so he cleans up her place. Hyun Bin, please come over! I wonder if it's an extention of their different class - they are both white collar professionals now, obviously, but their backgrounds are super different: she is from a wealthy urban family (I bet she never had to clean up in her life) and he grew up on a farm where I bet everyone had to pick up after themselves. I wonder if it will present an issue if they decide to make their relationship open to their families - background and status do matter, especially to the supercilious brittle family Jung Young seems to have, and no matter how well he does now, Ji Oh definitely did not come from her class.

So perfect together:

This is the way he looks at her working. *melt*

A little fantasy drama in his head, LOL:

I just love how they radiate joy. She had no sleep because she is filming but instead of going to bed she rode the bus for two hours (each way) just to see him for half a day:

This is my ideal afternoon!

Oh yes yes yes, my Secondary OTP looks ready to set sail! He is so jealous of her hanging out with the assistant guy!

Faint now:

He is carrying her around AND vacuuming at the same time. My ideal man!

Heee, he is brushing her teeth for her!

I knew they were too happy! The preview foretells angst! Noooo!

I cannot wait to watch more!
