Please tell me which episode the scene is where he tells her that he liked her ever since the Gukja convo. I have to have to watch it. ♥

It was ep 55, the one with snowfight.making out/wedding. So GOOD. The shippiest ep of the bunch!

I adored that about the show and to this day I'm not sure how they managed to do it.

Yeah, usually they have the females come across as over-the-top or clingy if they do this but you are right, Young Ran was so confident and so "sunny" it never came across as that - she loved him desperately, but she wasn't desperate, if it makes any sense.

DC was always clear to vocalize the fact that they couldn't be together but then he does these really sweet things like tell her how innocent and uncorrupted her eyes are.

Exactly. He'd always be pushing her away but in a fashion that clearly indicated he liked her - like the eyes conversation or how he always lets himself hug her back, or even that kiss on the boat (OMGYUM) where she kisses him first but it takes him a bit to muster the will to push her away. And there is the whole risking his life to save her or telling her she is loveable. What's a girl to think?

I thought it was adorable when they were having their conversation in ep 55 and he told her he knew she was the one he was waiting for from the moment she did that ladle song, and she asked him why he was pushing her away then, he commented she was too pretty. And it's a joke but it also isn't - because even before her father and all those obstacles, I am sure he had this deep belief that someone so 'wonderful' he is not good enough for and it can't really be real on her part.

how much like a normal guy he acted around her, how much he appreciated her directness.

I loved that part! He is never truly relaxed unless he is with her or Dong Wook (and with Dong Wook, all of this disappears after the birth reveal even if the love is still there).

except with DongWook, but then again I don't know cause I stopped watching after ep. 26 or smth

Yeah, it got pretty bad with Dong Wook at one point and I was hating DW with a vengeance (I don't really like what they did with DW's character but that's another topic) but with Young Ran, she always loved him...

I guess I appreciated the fact that DC's mom was so strong but at the same time, because of the very unique relationship she shared with DC, I always felt that DC had so much to prove to her

I respected his Mom - she was incredibly, scarily strong. But I did not like her - her upbringing resulted in two incredibly strong sons, but they were sons who were also incredibly messed up. In some way, she struck me as more comfortable grieving and praying over her dead husband (who she was harsh with when he was alive) than interacting with her living family.

it started with a girl who liked this ruggedly handsome ahjusshi (lol, as a side note, I love how he calls him that xD) and he in turn liked this fun, pretty girl back

Exactly. it started as this simple physical attraction (a rarity in a kdrama to start with) and got into something much much more.

YR doesn't have to be a kick-ass female mafia person to still be strong, to still have DC respect and love her

I loved that! She was strong and helpful quite often but she wasn't the stereotypical 'kick people to prove she is strong' type.

One of the reasons that whole running away to the beach part really hit something with me was because of that part, where they were eating and DC was like how this could be their life.

I loved that. They have this amazing ability to shut out the world and iminent doom when they allow themselves the happiness of being together - in the beach scene with the goons of her dad immediately after them, or near the end when they are on the run from mobsters AND cops. It's just - it's as if when they have each other, they can relax and be happy no matter what.
