Spring Drama Roster

Apr 20, 2009 15:10

Out of about a million dramas out there this spring, this is my Drama Spring Roster, i.e. the ones I am following and thus the ones you can expect to see me blab about.

JAPAN

Smile: One episode is out so far. I am so desperate to see this one, I started watching this raw, because arashi.vox's subs are going to be a bit late. Why? I will basically watch anything Matsumoto Jun is in, and this being a love story and social commentary on mistreatment of foreigners, plus written by the writer of Hanadan and Utahime, and directed by the director of Hanadan, I am set, so very set.

KOREA

Princess Ja Myung Go: Eleven episodes are out so far. I have yet to see a Korean period drama that was not good, but PJMG seems especially made for me - a strong female protagonist, doomed love, poisonous politics, amazing fights, dysfunctional families, gorgeous art design. I love this drama so incredibly much.

Slingshot: Five episodes are out so far. I like gritty dark revenge dramas, so it would have probably always been something for me to check out, but once I found out the screenwriter was the one who wrote Legend, Sandglass, and Eyes of Dawn, I came madly on-board.

TAIWAN

Black and White: Four episodes are out so far. It is THE drama of the spring season for me. Have a bunch of my favorite actors, throw in great production values, action scenes, friendship, twisty plot, strong women, and promise of clever story and angst. I am so very sold.

ToGetHer: ten episodes are out. There is always room for whimsical, tender romantic comedy on my list, and I have been quite in love with this drama so far. Not to mention the story of an otaku and a washed-out idol is deliciously off-kilter, and I adore both Jiro Wang and Rainie Yang.

REJECTS

Atashinchi no Danshi (Japan): I like Horikita Maki but not enough to watch her interact with a bunch of remarkably unattractive men.

Knock Knock Loving You (Taiwan): Knock Knock Raping You is more like it. No thank you. I don't need a Dylan Kuo (thankfully the non-rapist in this one) fix that badly.

Empress Chin Chu (Korea): this sounds very much like my thing, being a period epic and a woman-centric one to boot, but I can handle only one long period drama at a time.

Queen of Housewives (Korea): even the title is boring.

City Hall (Korea): you know what is even more boring than Queen of Housewives? A drama about a small-town city mayor. No thanks.

Cinderella Man (Korea): glad as I am to see a drama where Kwon Sang Woo won't die in agony or have his loved ones do the same, this just sounds really really uninspired - though two look-alikes, one poor one rich, is cute enough I might check out if one of my watched dramas ends.

black and white, queen of housewives, doramas2, knock knock loving you, cinderella man, dorama list, empress chin chu, princess ja myung go, city hall, slingshot, smile, atashinchi no danshi, to get her
