I was just talking to my friend the other day about why Jolie was such a big deal. She's an okay actress and sure she's pretty, but there are a lot of far better, prettier actresses out there. I don't understand this sort of circus that always seems to follow her.

Yeah, I don't see why media is so fixated on her.

She's my favorite.
I'm sure they find it just as rediculous (and MORE) annoying than the rest of us. I'm a huge fan, but hey, A few radiant pregnent pictures (like, at the kung fu panda premiere) and finding out what the kids names are, that's goode enough for me. I hate the media in general, it's all so annoying.

I don't want pictures or names even, in the mainstream press. I mean, fine, put that news on an entertainment program or what not, but all over mainstream news? Why?

Yeah I agree that the celebrity culture is stupid, unfortunately, there is a lot of americans who care more about that sort of thing than what's going on on the other side of the world, so that's what news (businesses) give them, what they want. Of course this also feeds the celeb culture, it's a vicious, stupid cycle. But I hate the news by itself too. I like knowing what's happening in the world, but so much of it is just fear mongering and sensationalist, I'm honestly more interested in Angelina Jolie than a string of convenient store robberies by some punk kid in LA. But not more so than the coverae on Mugabe (why is he still alive?!)

*shrug*

I can't tell you how much I resent this being reported as 'news' instead of on those entertainment shows where it belongs.

ETA: And while I understand that they probably have very little control over the media the dark side of me does think that some of it comes from a symbiotic relationship that they get a lot of benefit out of.

I think so too, actually.

I hear ya. They probably don't appreciate the coverage much either.

It's just...there is plenty of other news out there, people.

Agreed! Gossip about famous folks should be something you have to seek out, not something you have to tune out because it's EVERYWHERE.
