Bollywood Glee

This morning, I watched all the hosted bits by Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan for Filmfares 2008. OMG. If Oscars were like this, I'd watch religiously. I almost laughed myself sick.

That is one of many reasons I love Bollywood: they don't take themselves too seriously. Two of the biggest Bollywood stars, mercilessly mocking themselves and everyone in the audience, or dancing in towels, or getting Akshay Kumar, another big star, to play along. Why can't Hollywood be like this?

My favorite bits were with Akshay Kumar, the mocking of RGV (ugh, hate his pretentious awful sleazy self), and all the slash stuff with SRK and Saif. And is it me, or was Kareena Kapoor almost literally glowing every time she looked at Saif? She looked utterly besotted. And who could blame her. That was kinda adorable. I am beginning to think she just might end up Mrs. Nawab after all (or whatever is the term for a female Princess). Also, I was worried about her slimming down too much for Tashan (Aditya Chopra and his fixation on skeletons, UGH!) but she looked good. (Kareena is my favorite working actress except for Kajol, so there :P)

GO BOLLYWOOD!

In other news, one of the reasons I love Bollywood movies is because they are...well...pretty.

Behind the cut are a bunch of poster-wallpapers of various recent/upcoming flicks. Some are good movies, some not so good. But the images? The images are gorgeous.

And to conclude on another Bolly note, I kept picking my Kapoors book on and off, as each 'chapter' is about a different member of the family, so I didn't have to read it at a binge.

Purely based on the book, Shashi Kapoor is totally my favorite. I always liked him in movies, but I just thought the love story between him and his wife was so incredibly filmi.

Because she was English, and he met her when he was 18 and she a few years older (she was an actress touring India with her Dad's troupe) and they ended up wanting to get married and her family was so unhappy about it: I mean! Miscegenation! Icky Indian people intermarrying with the British! Apparently her grandmother was all 'she is going to have black babies.' (I quote) Ugh. The book says that she came to say good-bye to her father when she went off to get married and he wouldn't even speak to her or look at her and she had to run off to Shashi that way. (They ended up reconciling later).

And apparently she and Shashi were totally dirt-poor after marriage and he was so upset because she loved to read and he couldn't afford to buy her books. And they were so young that when she got pregnant, they didn't realize and he was all 'OMG, she is ill!' and asked elderly neighbor for help and the lady was all 'OMG, dummies, she is pregnant.' LOL.

Seriously, so filmi. Apparently she told him if he ever strayed (most Kapoors have a wandering eye), she'd be out the door so he toed the line unlike the rest of the family :D And even though she was English, she kept Karva Chauth for years (it's a fast which women do once a year for their husband's health). AWWW. And when she died of cancer, he went into this total depression/shut-down mode, and the only way he got dragged out of it was his older brother Shammi Kapoor who showed up and was all 'if you want yo kill yourself, go jump off a building instead etc etc.'

Basically, one big awww.

ETA: Browsing BollyWHAT, I found some Kareena/Saif pics. Heee. I love Bolly celebrity couples. Whether they stay together or have a trainwreck and break up, they always amuse me greatly.

E.g.:

(you can see the tattoo of her name on his arm. It's huge! Seriously, how drunk was he when he got it? Also, I wonder what his ex-wife thinks. I bet he never got her name tattooed on any visible part of his body :D)

I think she is gorgeous:

srk, bollywood, eye candy, kapoors, saif ali khan
