But will Mike He ever do a drama where I'm not vastly more interested in the other guy? Or for that matter, one where I'm not interested in spite of him (It's the "tough bad boy" act...it's so fake, yet he gets those roles every time...I might be able to watch him without groaning if he just played a nice guy)
Heh. He played (excellently, I might add) the reserved, shy, nice guy in Love Contract with Ariel Lin. However, not only did the ending make me bawl, it's wildly uneven: the OTP stuff is awesome but I want to strangle ever secondary character in it.
He actually played a really sweet guy in Why Why Love, imo.
From what I've heard, I may actually like Mike in LC, but I've heard too much bad about everything but the OTP to ever try it...I need other stuff to be good(or at least, not annoying) to get me through something, esp. something as long as a twdrama.
From what I understand, his WWL character is a sweetie, but underneath the "Bad boy" act. I plan to watch WWL(because I am a shameless Kingone girl...he has the questionable honor of being the only TW actor I'll try in anything unless it sounds like something I just won't like...korea and japan have a few of each) so maybe I'll like him more there. I don't think I'll ever get past how much both leads annoyed me in DBY...I am consistently more and more annoyed with both, the farther removed from escondary OTP hijinks I am.
DBY was...honestly, I went into mostly neutral about rainie but liking her ok, and thinking nothing about mike except that he was mildly cute(I think his looks just aren't my thing, maybe...really, that's most TW actors for me except Joe Cheng, Kingone and Jerry Yan...most of them I look at as "well, you're good looking, but I don't see the big deal" anyway...) and now I think I actively dislike both because of it, which I really need to get past.
Others who hated DBY passionately and make me look like a fan like WWL and liked both OK in it...I just need to get past the DBY kneejerk reaction.
I will never ever understand the popularity of DBY. It's not even one of those dramas which I don't care for, but I see how others do. I just don't get it. Everything in it, except for Kingone/OTP was head-desky. They should have made a drama about them instead. A short mini-drama type thing (seriously, Kingone so needs to be a lead in a drama. He and Jiro Wang should form the 'awesome second bananas' club).
rainie but liking her ok, and thinking nothing about mike except that he was mildly I think DBY didn't make me think bad of them because I liked Rainie before in MG, and with Mike, I watched DBY in such short proximity with Love Contract, where he was so awesome (I'd date his character there in a heart-beat) that I ended up liking him anyhow. Plus, I do find him smoking hot. I think I find Taiwanese drama guys most attractive of the bunch actually, and Japanese least, in part because a lot of the latter are my height and weigh less than me
