Flamboyant? I don't think so...

In case you ever wondered why I have such an allergy to spangles and bands with huge performance apparati and floor shows. And why I could never get into it.

This below is the style of performance (for songs) I grew up with:

This is one of my favorite songs, but as you notice, they are wearing evening wear and just standing on the stage and singing.

I mean, when I left (then) USSR, Alla Pugacheva was about the biggest 'floor show' there was, with her steam machines and poodle hair and it was all relatively new. The above was still the most common. Add to it that my parents didn't grow up with any floor show, not even the meagre ones of the very late 80s, so their preferences for watching were solely above...

So yeah, every time I see the spangles and dancing choruses in e.g. jpop, I kinda go 'whaaaaaa?'
