So apparently--though we look a bit different from our origins--we haven't evolved, as this article professes our relationships resemble those of baboons or swans. Good to know, man, good to know.

I hate it when I come across ‘studies’ such as this. Why do people try to justify infidelity? Since when is it a bad thing to want to single another person out to grow and live with? More and more this sort of sensibility becomes acceptable. I don’t understand it. If your sex drive is oh-so powerful you can’t manage to be with one person rather than several then you obviously aren’t thinking with what separates us from creatures. If you don’t understand what I’m referencing, it’s that massive composition of synapses that we fondly, formerly proudly, call the brain. Not that thing wriggling in your pants whenever a ‘hot chick’ or 'hot guy' goes by (this sexual reference could work towards both men and women, so shut it).

So, what are you, a chimp or a man? Bonobos have sex merely to greet each other, if society really wants to make that the normal sort of affair between men and women so be it. Let’s all throw off our clothing and ravish each other, forget all about what evolution has given us.

To be frank-if I haven’t been clear enough so far-fucking around with whomever we want certainly won’t improve a relationship at home. What keeps a relationship stable is working together, not screwing apart. It’s about finding someone you really connect to rather than the most attractive person you can find. That, I think, is the major issue when it comes to keeping fidelity in a relationship. People no longer value intelligence, only how great someone’s figure looks with their clothes off.

You would sacrifice what could be a fantastic part of your relationship for several minutes under or over the body of someone else? Just a slight affair that will in no way better your personality or future? Fantastic. If that sounds like the kind of life for you, go for it. But do not try to rationalize this by saying ‘it’s what animals do!’ Sorry to break it to you, but we’re a bit higher up the food chain than rabbits.
