Beach life....

Sitting in the DELI EXPRESS next to my hotel, 14,000rp($2) spent on a coffee buys me 3 hours of wireless internet. I can see the surf break from here, it's small and clean. It's day 4, I am sunburnt and woke up with a splitting headache from surf neck pain, but several black coffees and a massage should sort that. The surf has been good so far, 4 foot and really nice. Today is the last day of that and from tommorrow the training wheels come off and it jacks up to 6/7 foot and perfect for a week: http://magicseaweed.com/Kuta-Surf-Report/566/

I really feel I can get things done here: I am powering into work, walking, doing yoga and even designing and building my own website. I plan to do some deeper meditations and learn how to use my new NIKON D80 camera whilst here. I also have 1200+ best-of-photos that I need to strip down to my best 50 images of the last 20 years for my new photography teacher. I have been realising that one of the over-arching themes of pictures I like is "out of context", I like to get close to things, to strip them of thier outer connecting structure and trigger the sensation where the brain claws for meaning and tries to project familar patterns.

There is some kind of festival here, some kind of beach olympics (football, surfing, volleyball etc.) followed by a KARNIVAL. There are big stages along the beach and last night I stood watching some cool indo kid rock band at sunset, drinking a beer. It's a different vibe from last time, more people, more fighting for pool side space, but stil fun and I somehow like the trashy vibe.

How lucky am I that I can take my work on the road in this way? It won't stay this way for ever so I will enjoy.

I have decided to stay another week which means I miss the Dandy Warhols gig but, ah, I've seen 'em before. It also seems as if I might be here for the execution of the bali bombers which will be taking place is southern java sometime in november.

Time for a massage.
