Outdoor adventures

I went to Withrow Springs State Park near Huntsville, Arkansas on Wednesday. Pictures and whatnot behind the cut.

Most of the first day was spent driving to see different things in different places. The first stop was Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas. The place is full of Autumn Blaze Maples.

I thought the leaves looked kind of neat with the sun behind them:

Next up was the Buffalo National River near Boxley, Arkansas.

And I was lucky enough to see a small herd of Elk resting in the shade of a tree just a couple hundred yards from the river:

Then I went back to Withrow Springs and camped out.

The next morning, I got up and went hiking on the War Eagle Trail, which follows War Eagle Creek. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't get to see any EAGLES AT WAR!!! One minute after stepping onto the trail, I saw a deer bounding through a meadow.

Most of the trail went along the top of a bluff over the creek. Someone left an easel leaning up against a gnarled old tree.

This was the view from where the easel was:

The trail made its way down to the creek, and there was a big cave on the bank.

Of course I had to go inside. It was huge in there. The ceiling must have been 25 feet high. Here is what it looked like from the inside:

When I finished hiking the trail, I went home and ate tacos for lunch.
