Hey.
Today i worked with the worst hangover ever. It wasn't really the worst, but the lack of sleep coupled with the vomiting were a little more than I would have liked. Note to self. Lesson learned.
So let's get up to date a bit. I've been dating a girl named Katie for just over four months now, and we really like Katie. She is a psych/soci major going into her last year at Trent. I am an environmental chemist going into my third year at Trent. FYI. Here's a picture of us:
Katie hates this picture because "her hair looks flat." Oh Katie.
This summer I've been working in an inorganic analytical chemistry lab at Trent for a dude named Dirk. Inorganic means that they look at metals and shit like that instead of carbon-based stuff. My job has been to look at the concentrations of phosphorus in rainwater. It's pretty intense, I'm measuring at levels of approximately 4-50 parts per billion, or about 1/1,000,000th of a gram per litre. It's all going quite well, and it's wicked for my resumé and the whole thing is just brimming with potential.
I've also been spending a lot of time at our cottage just outside of Apsley, about 45 minutes north of Peterborough. It's fallen into disrepair a little bit over the last few years, so I'm spearheading a family effort to restore it to a better-than-ever state. In reality, it's an excuse to go to the cottage every weekend and listen to Jack Johnson without feeling lazy. For my birthday, Katie got me some snorkelling gear, so I've taken to snorkelling in a big way. I get headaches a lot because I try diving too deep and staying underwater too long. It's sick (the good way) how awesome it is to be able to dive deep, how quiet everything is. Interesting too, how fish don't mind sorta hangin' around and being your buddy, so long as you don't try to touch them.
I don't really know why I'm writing this, just documenting a chunk of my life, I guess. Everything seems to be going so well, I guess maybe I can share some inspiration or something. I'm bummed out right now a bit because I was thinking of Soviet, my late cat, who was my favourite thing ever. She died in a house fire last spring. So it goes.
There's lots of other stuff, too, like Travis' and my gang, the
Danger Pirates, shooting guns, going to monster truck shows (and photo ops in demo'd cars), peanut butter and jyll sandwiches for lunch EVERY DAY, the chipmunk picture. So there's lots going on, Livejournal just doesn't sit too high on the priority scale. On that note, I'm out. Hope you are all well.
