My mom has been improving. Not much, but every bit counts. The neurologist came in yesterday to check up on her and he said he thinks it looks like her responses and such are looking like she's recovering in the area beyond the brain stem, which is what we're looking for. We're doing another EEG reading and catscan (sp.?) today to find out for sure, so please pray that the neurologist will see improvement beyond the stem. We want the stem to improve as well, and it should if the rest of the brain is to recover. But the top part beyond the stem is what retains personality and who my mom is. So we need to see improvment going beyond her brain stem and into the cerebral part.
Yesterday the doctor was yelling into her ear, "Carol! Wake up! Open your eyes!" She opened her eyes in response. Wide open for around 15 seconds or so, maybe longer. She's opened her eyes a few times now. All her bodily functions are fairly normal, which is excellent since that's what will allow the brain to recover if it is to recover. But she's still comatose and we need her brain to recover to the point where she can breath completely on her own, talk, walk, sing, and be the youthful wonderful person she is.
My family, especially my dad, is going through such a rough time right now. To see my dad wake up every morning and cry is just the most terrible thing I've ever seen. And of course every time he sees something my mom did around the house he weeps even more.
Please continue to pray and meditate on God's Word. A miracle is our prayer.
