The 4th Year is the hardest thing in the entire world.
Today I took the fairly lengthy (8 pages 1900 word) introduction to my advisor for her to look over and she glanced at the pages said it wasn't long enough and to bulk it out for Monday.
She didn't read a word of it.
I've spent about a fortnight trying to summarize an entire theoretical field of physics and the workings of a particle detector, one of the largest, most complicated and expensive pieces of kit in physics and she didn't even read it. Depressing, especially as the course supervisor for this project keeps telling me to move on to covering the current research and not to spend too long explaing the background, I now have to spend the next few nights going back to concisely summarised paragraphs and filling them with explicit mathematical explanations I don't even understand, or enourmous technical specifications, perhaps the dullest thing in the world. This puts me behind my schedule by about a fortnight. But if I get the background sorted writing about the research is going to be a nightmare because the experiment doesn't really begin for another 6 months and so I have to reference the even more complicated papers about the simulations. GASH GASH FUCKING GASH
Although on Saturday i'm going to see Arcade Fire with my brother, and I might just go home and play on his new X-Box for a bit.
Separately I'm doing a breakfast show now, so if you're up between 8 and 10 on Mondays or Fridays go to
www.insanityradio.com and listen to me and some people you don't know talking and playing music.
