Busy Busy Busy!
Hey geezers.
After barreling through the first half of the spring semester, finishing off the high school basketball regular season for The Daily Herald, and being an all around good guy while I live at home and soak up the suburbs, it was time for SLACK WEEK AKA getting to see my girlfriend again.
This visit, separated only by about 5 or 6 weeks from the January visit, was a lot better than having to wait from September to January for the last visit, but anticipation was still high, and the pressure was on too. This time, I wasn’t just going to see Claire, I was going to meet her parents, and with Claire’s help, cook the family a nice dinner.
Surely this could only end in a tragic housefire, right?
Wrong.
The visit was a smashing success. Her family treated me great while I took over their basement for half a week, the dinner (chicken breasts covered in mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce) was delicious, and Claire made an amazing dessert. I definitely felt very welcome. Canada Vs. America? Hardly, Broken Social Scene.
The rest of the visit was top notch as well. After an uneventful day of travel getting into Canada last Thursday night, Claire and I spent Friday just hanging out until we decided to class it up in celebrating our 6th month. We went to a nice Italian restaurant that had a really cool modern décor, and we ordered a fancy bottle of yellow tail Charonday, which I proceeded to ‘test’ and swirl as if I knew what in the hell I was doing. I didn’t, but I bet I looked like it.
We finished dinner and the bottle and went off to the Martini Bar, where I got some banana martini and then something with cranberry juice and jaeger and perfected the art of martini pouring. Claire got some sour apple martini and something else, and all of them were so good.
Did I mention we both looked so good? We did. I have no proof, because even though I brought my camera, we managed to take zero pictures of the entire weekend. I know, I’m terrible. We’ll have to rectify that when Claire visits boring Bartlett in a month.
Anyway, the rest of the visit included a great salmon dinner cooked by Claire’s mom, and me watching a bit of a maple leafs game with her family, getting into “Original Six” discussion with her dad (BRO-DOWN!). And then FINALLY getting to hang with Luke, Meghan, her boyfriend, and a bunch of Claire’s friends at the bars on Saturday and Sunday. Everyone was really nice, and apparently Claire’s friends think I’m hot and nice, so who am I to disagree?
As Luke mentioned in his entry, we conducted the first (for sports den) live fantasy baseball draft of sorts when I drafted my team on a laptop to Luke’s left. It was quite an experience, while Claire read girlie magazines on Luke’s couch and told me to pick the cute players. I feel good about my team, no doubt.
Monday morning saw my departure from London, amidst maximum sadness (but no crying) from Claire and I. At least she’ll be here sooner than later, because she is fantastic, and I have much more fun when she’s around.
The next week is absolutely bonkers for me. It’s mid term week at Columbia, so I’ve got papers and speeches I need to be writing, and instead I’ve been playing a bunch of Fight Night on Xbox 360, because I love to knock a brother out, you know?
After my week ends Wednesday, It’s off to Florida Sunday through Thursday to visit my dad for the first time in about 7 years, and to celebrate my grandma’s 80th birthday. That’s so old. I’m not sure whether I want to be that old, though I suppose it would depend on how well I was feeling, really.
Hopefully I’ll take some pictures. If not…I’ll write a half assed LJ about it.
