The title is stolen from Tennyson's "The Lady of Shallot" because A) I couldn't call it "When Under Ether" since it's impossible not to read that as "When Under Uther," and that'd be a different kind of vid. That someone should definitely make. And B) I wanted to play with Morgana as the embowered maiden in Tennyson's poem, who only sees the outside world reflected in her mirror. And when she does go outside, it's so she can die prettily and make Lancelot feel bad. (Hey, if the show can jumble up Arthurian legends, then I can, too.) This focus meant I had to bring in Merlin because although both he and Morgana are forced to hide their abilities, Merlin does his hiding while running, jumping, and climbing trees, but Morgana's outside adventures don't turn out so well.
I also had in mind the versions of the legend in which Morgana betrays Arthur and becomes a villain, particularly those in which she is Mordred's mother. Therefore, the "something inside her" is her magical Otherness, her potential betrayal of Camelot, and, um, Mordred.
