The day a hole became a topic of everyday conversation

I won't be able to take a picture of my nose until I get ahold of a camera, but for now, I'll just say that it DOES look cute and describe the events leading up to it, the process of getting it, and the feeling afterward. I'll even tell you what I thought this morning.

Before
Saturday was possibly one of the best days of my life.  It marked the day I repossessed my pickup, got a phone card, got a cell (not that I'm happy about that), and was able to purchase the wood I need to build my table (I will scan and post the design here when I'm done) AND get the last of my textbooks so that I don't fail my classes.

With such a day, I felt suddenly that I needed to celebrate.  Last summer I had planned to get my nose pierced with Brandy.  She planned to pierce her belly.  The catch, though, was that she felt that she needed to lose weight before she did so, and the piercing was her reward.  Sadly, she never felt like she'd lost enough, so we never did.

So I decided I would pierce my nose rather than drink or whatever.  Sunday was the day--but guess what?  Tattoo parlors aren't open on Sundays.

I went last night, the first night that I had a chance.  I dragged my friend Ashley along with me, because she loooooooooves needles.  She felt like getting something pierced as well, but refrained from it (her parents would be upset).

The Process
I chose a piercing.  I wanted the little diamond stud, which was smaller yet and very chic-looking, but at $70, I decided against it.  I'll get it later.  Instead, I picked a little crystal.

The man had me sit in a chair and cleaned my nose.  Everything was impeccably clean.  He opened a package that had a silver tube and a rather thick needle about 2" long.  He had me scrunch my nose, smile, unsmile, etc. before he marked where to poke, then after I ok'd the spot, he wiped it off and inserted the tube in my nose to prevent the needle from hitting anything else.  Then he pushed the needle through.  Ow.  My eyes watered and I blinked hard to clear them as he left the needle in halfway to get the stud, then pushed the needle the rest of the way through and pushed the stud in and screwed it in place.  He handed me a tissue to wipe my eyes with.

What It Felt Like
A lot worse than piercing the dimples in my lobes (when I got the second holes in each ear, I asked the lady to pierce the dimples--yes, dimples.  I had dimples in my ears that looked like I had another set of holes).  On a scale of 1-10, I'd say maybe only a 6, because I have a lot of skin to go through.  I hate being a wuss, because I handled getting a tattoo and jumping off a cliff and so many other things rather well.

After the Piercing
Afterwards, it was just a small, dull ache.  Not too bad.  The adrenaline rush, however, was giving me a headache.  I popped 3 Ibuprofens when I got home.  I kept wiggling my nose, which made it hurt, but if I kept still, it was fine.

This Morning
No pain.  Just when I jarred my nose, forgetting that I even had it.  I cleaned some of the blood from around the hole with a wet Q-tip (clean, of course).

No swelling.  It looks cute.  I like.

And Salsita, the screw inside sits on the inside of the wall, so once it heals, I'll be able to wipe my nose if it's runny.  And I don't think blowing my nose will be a problem.  Actually...this is weird...I thought that a nose piercing in my left nostril would make it close up, but it did quite the opposite--I have been able to breathe out of that nostril for the longest period of time in a very long time.  My nose is twisted a bit, so the septum inside is closer to the left nostril than the right...so I WAS concerned.  Not bad at all.
