Yes, I did call Charcoal Man night before last. I decided to ask him about needing to write a cover letter for our class assignment (although I found out later it wasn't an assignment...), so I dialed the number he gave me. It took so long to finally push "send" because every time I looked at it, my heart would start beating so fast I couldn't breathe anymore, and I took it as a sign I should hold on for a few minutes until I calmed down.
I pushed "send."
It rang. And rang. And rang.
Then I heard his voice--his voice mail. I was disappointed and relieved at the same time, but I still left a message including my cell number to call back.
Eleven minutes later, my phone rang, and I picked it up and held it to my ear.
"Hello? Hello?.......um...is anybody there?....ok....bye."
He'd hung up. Before I even picked up.
I didn't call him back because I wasn't sure if I should, since I can't get my messages in Pullman--I have to be in Spokane or Seattle to get them. I was sure I would see him yesterday in class and explain why I didn't call back, but like a true twist of fate, he wasn't there. Bum skipped.
